Why are we both down the arse end of this division?

by ITFC_Keane » 29 Jan 2010 23:43

Can't understand it. We both play a nice brand of football, have some decent players and generally look better than the Plymouth's/Peterborough's/Scunthorpe's of the league, yet we're both scrapping it out to avoid relegation.

FWIW, I went to the game at TMS earlier in the season and you lot played us off the park. I sincerely hope you don't go down, 'cos you relegated the yellow scum for us last season. Many thanks :D

Yes, was at the game.......and without Rosey, our "on loan" full back, I think we would have won, however the tractor boys seem to be pulling themselves away from the arse end of the Championship and unfortunately the league doesn't lie. You see, you can play a nice brand of football but it means nothing without sticking the ball in the net........................Something that we don't know how to do this season

You'll be fine. We might.

Our problems are a defence who can't concentrate and strikers who can't score.

That's been our major flaw this season as well. That and the £8 million Keane spent on players he now doesn't play, and who are frankly worth a tenth of the price we paid for them.

Rosenior's doing well here though. Big crowd favourite, even if, just occasionally, he does something thick and causes hearts to enter mouths. Is it true we're swapping him with Priskin come May?

No you'll be fine as well. You've got too much quality in that team to go down. Get the feeling your coach/caretaker manager just needs a bit of time to get you gelling. With the strikers and midfield you've got, I can see you winning quite a few, particularly as you've also got the poorer teams coming up.

You'll definitely win tomorrow - 2-0

Not heard that one. As I understand it, Ipswich paid us £200k and you guys are paying his wages, all with a view to a perm deal at the end of the season when his contract with Reading runs out. He would be availble on a "free" so unless you need rid of Priskin I can't see it happening.....However, could I tempt you with this swap deal?

Rasiak for Stead???

Goes to show what can be done if you stick by your manager. I remember the ipswich crowd singing keano all the way through the match while BR got nothing. At the time we were above Ipswich having spent a lot less money.

Now look at both clubs, we are just getting what we deserve. Good luck to ipswich, hope you stay up for showing how it should be done.

No thanks! Wouldn't mind that Sigurdsson though. Or Jimmy Kebe.

We are touting Priskin, Lee Martin, David Wright and Pablo Counago to all comers at the moment. I'd be inclined to let anyone have Lee Martin if they offered us our money back.

Don't forget, we'd just come out of a turgid season with Magilton in charge, when we were playing the sort of crap football that tends to see attendances droop like a knob near a naked Anne Widdicombe. And we finished ninth that season. Christ. Offer us ninth now and we'd bite up to the shoulder...

We really don't deserve to be down where we are?

It's just that we have a defence that falls asleep, strikers who don't where the goal is, a bunch of midfielders who don't compliment eachother well enough to form a solid starting set without needing to chop and change (ultimately unsatisfactorily) every 17 seconds, and a reserve keeper who is learning his trade. Not to mention a manager who's newer to management than you are to this site.
And don't get me started on the board.

But we have McAnuff, at least consistently decent player for us so for his sake only yes I guess we don't belong to be where we are.

What's your excuse?

RFC fully deserve to be where they are, they went for a full rebuild after last season, when they should have been looking at progress, Siggy, Karacan and Church have been levels of success this season, and look to be part of the team for a few years.

They employed a manager that was happy to walk on his first club faster than a speeding bullet, they then believed all his crap, how he needed to build a complete new team, more players always needed. Despite signing Rasiak, Howard, Mills, McAnuff,O'Dea, Cummings, Bertrand he wanted more, 3 more in the window I seem to recall, so 10 players, surely leaving the players here pre his time to wonder why they stayed.

Jimmy Kebe is the new Pele. It would cost Ipswich £7 million +

We'd drive you Kebe and I think Rosenior is out of contract in the summer, so no swap there.

Sure your biggest problem is having a manager all the players and everyone else at the club is terrified of.

Our biggest problem is we're a bit shit.

We certainly are. And then McDermott says how he is "determined to start with a win[over Barnsley]". Well, thanks for that! I was hoping you would say I hope Barnsley give us another home defeat...

Our biggest problem was losing David Norris to injury in the first game. It meant our midfield went all tippy-tappy, leaving us susceptible to both the cloggers and the better exponents. It's no coincidence that, since Keano signed Grant Leadbitter and stopped playing Lee Martin (who is one of the worst wingers I have ever seen), we've got better.

Fear of Keane from the players isn't true btw. He's apparently mellowing. One of our local journos made the fatal error of referring to "prawn sandwiches" when discussing our home supporters during the manager's press meeting once, and Keano just smiled like a shark. Years ago, he'd have torn him limb from limb. I've also seen him about Ipswich with his missus, shopping, and, whilst not going overboard with friendliness, he signed my lad's home shirt and was gracious.

I hope we both stay up. Seems you're going through a spot of "Ipswich" disease at the moment. Decent finish in the Prem, relegated next season after not building on it well enough, then a few seasons of bilge in the Championship. Like Arnie, you'll be back.

I loved it when that local journo asked him about bringing in video tech after the Ireland France game.

The look Keane gave him. You ask me this same question everytime something happens and I give you the same answer.

Didn't look mellow to me.

Dunno how Lee Martin keeps getting the chances, looked terrible everywhere he has been imo.

Because we're total crap at being consistent and can't score for toffee - honestly it's like watching 11 Paul Braysons a times. A lot of effort but couldn't hit a bovine posterior with a stringed musical instrument with a long neck and a hollow circular body .
