My friend Richard.

by Chaney » 02 Apr 2010 17:47

I have known this great guy from way back in the days of the lower leagues at elm park, a Reading fanatic and season ticket holder, has a group of friends we enjoyed many an away day, untill about 3 years ago he a regular in the jazz cafe, yes he liked a drink my mate Richard,
I was with him at leicester city when we clinched promotion to the premier league, don`t think I ever saw the man look so happy and true to form we got plastered on the way home. he really enjoyed our time in the big time as we all did.
however during the 2nd season there his health deteriated and he couldn`t go any longer. we missed him as did all his friends.
during the last two seasons he started to come again but he had to sit lower down in Y22.
always a joy to see him and have a chat, during the West brom game I was making my way to my seat for the 2nd half when I saw him sitting there, "I shouted Richard, you ok?" he smiled and waved, I wouldn`t have expected anything less..a truly wonderful man.

Little did I know at that moment in time that it would be the last time I see him..I got a phone call last night from a mutual friend, he said I have some bad news..Richard died suddenly last night..a real shock has I choked back tears. he was just 49 years old. far too young to go
he leaves a wife and 2 children.

Reading FC has lost one of its greatest fans and we have lost a wonderful friend. our loss is heavens gain.

RIP RICHARD YOU WON`T BE FORGOTTEN.

I never met Richard, all of us exist in many different identities in life....son,father, colleague, fellow football supporter etc,I find it really touching that someone has taken the time to start this post.... as football supporters we share a lot... for most it is a lifetime not a pastime....RIP Richard

49 years old ffs :(

RIP - Never knew the guy but there is something about fellow football fans and the memories and bonds we share that always makes the passing of one of us very sad, especially as we are a smaller club with a decent tight knit atmosphere amongst the support.

Very sad to hear the news. RIP richard. Would like to see a mention or something from the club next home game.

RIP Richard. Glad that you managed to see the lads play in the Prem and maybe you can pull a few celestial strings to get us back there again. Condolences to your family.

I think both his offspring who are Reading fans look at this site from time to time, if they see this I`m sure it will give them so much comfort at this heartbreaking time for them that fellow RFC fans feel the loss of a fellow supporter with so much sorrow.

As I also sit in Y22 I would most likely have known Richard by sight. He was clearly one of the chosen ones, unlike the rest of us who have to soldier on. Keep a look out for us Richard.

When a loyal fan leaves us it's the same as one of our old players. Whilst we can never hold a minutes silence each time it happens we can at least share the grief of his family and friends. RIP Richard
