I said it on another thread. You can't take a team who play football like Wimbledon in the 80s and turn them into Swansea overnight. It takes time.

The jury is still out with on NA. Will have to wait and see. No guarantees that he 's the messiah

melonhead  thats very poor imo

i love busted, and have told my girlfriend as much

but if she turned up with them unannounced at my house to play a gig, it wouldnt have been me who initiated it andsorted it all out, and it certainly would be risable to suggest it was.

You need to put Frimmers' goalposts down as well - you're flip-flopping all over the place now.

MytchettSaint Hi all,

Sorry for poking my nose in but thought I'd read your board and see what your take was on last night and how Nigel was being received.

Got to be honest I wasn't surprised when I saw you'd been beaten but was by how much. It reminded me of Leeds away in this cup last season for us. Most Saints fans still have steam coming out of their ears over that result/performance/team selection but it seems NA doesn't take this comp at all seriously. I wouldn't let this cloud your judgement too much. I read on another thread about the time it's taking to change the footballing philosophy at Reading and again it sounds like the same discussions we had when he'd been with us for a couple of months, I remember watching a game against Oldham at home in league one thinking 'christ what the foook is going on here' but to be fair to him he came good when he'd got his team playing his way. I was gutted when he was sacked back in January but now I think he'd perhaps made to many silly mistakes in the top league that he got away with a season earlier. I still want him to succeed as he was a genuinely nice and passionate guy at our place as well as successful so I hope he's a success with you lot. Be good personally to have that close by game again on our fixture list.

Peace and Love.

Unfortunately Nigel has been left a load a dross which he has began weeding out. However some of these are on high wages such as the Pog and cant be moved on easily. I am more concerned in case Nigel walks rather than if it works out as I'm sure it will over time. He cant make a purse from a pigs ear.

It is ridiculous to say Adkins has been left with loads of dross. Just look at our squad that won this division in May 2012. The current squad is light years better than what Brian had to work with then. He made huge strides in improving it on a very limited budget. And Pog was the owner's decision not Brian's. It was said at the time how Anton persuaded Pog and got his man as the marquee signing at the start of the PL season and everyone on here applauded - so hardly Brian's fault that it did not work out.
it was also said that anton asked brian who he wanted and brian joked pog, thinking there was no chance. Anton made it happen. Maybe it isn't true, but if it is it tells you quite a lot about brian's ambitions for signings.

melonhead anton- what do you think of the play pogrebnyak who was at fulham
brian- yes i think he is a good player, ive seen him a few times, and he seems to have the requisite ability to make it in the prem.
anton- well guess what brian, hes here tonight, and ive already started the process of buying him.

doesnt really sound like he was "fully" in control of the transfer

Yes, this is an accurate summary of what happened, based on all of the facts available to melonhead. I have no reason to doubt this is how a football club transacts its business.

Only Pavel didn't turn up at that time to play the gig did he?

The deal wasn't done until two months later, which gave McDermott plenty of time to regain control of the transfer situation (if he had ever lost it) and not sign the player he professed to love.

Its a sad day when Kes shows himself to be more rational than 80% of the rest of HNA.

the gig was just an imprumptu set at the preliminary meeting, the deal for them to move in with me fell through at the last minute due to injury

How many people heard the interview with NA on Radio Berks this morning??

Very worrying what he said (or what more importantly what he didn't say) - you can tell that he's mighty pissed off with lack of funds and players we got in during the transfer window and lack of activity in the loan window so far.

I've said it before but the signs are getting even stronger that Nigel's not going to be around for very much longer with all the broken promises that he's been given by the club.

i took it as mightily pissed off at having to answer all these oxf*rd daft questions, when the reality is, its hard to attract the best quality players to a club thats been relegated without paying a premium which we cant afford to/arent willing to pay.

he sounded frustrated that theyve failed at the last minute in many bids.

anything else, including, nay especially reading thing into things that werent said( ) is a bit silly

TD - We've been talking about lack of strength in some areas..
NA - What positions are those?
TD - Left back, no left footed options. Strikers, only 2 available. Central defence, only 3 option for 2 positions

NA - Yeah, it's good isn't it. <laughs>

He does not sound happy. True though, he has been here since March and only signed 3 players, and lots of players have left. If Anton was not going to bring in players to help adapt our style of play, he should have just kept Brian. How is Adkins supposed to get us playing the football Anton and himself wants when he has hardly changed around the squad.

Anton has some answering to do IMO.

Sympathy with NA = NIL. He should have done his due diligence. Madejski perhaps should have done his due diligence too!

As Peachy said "the gloss is coming off", he has to remain positive and work with what he's got but clearly he's not happy.

none of the management are "happy" that they failed to get their targets.
not being happy does not translate to not being happy with each other and wanting out/wanting him out

Cheers for that. But didn't he get millions to forge a new squad with you guys? With us he's a net negative transfer budget so far.
