Team for Birmingham

by Crux » 13 Sep 2016 11:02

Al Habsi

Gunter
McShane
Moore
Obita

Swift
VDB
Quinn

McCleary
Kermorgant
Beerens

Bit of a change in midfield. Quinn will add energy and a bit of quality and Swift is more creative.

Blackett was quite simply awful on Friday and could do with a watching brif and work on the training ground for now. I really do think he's a CB anyway.

I think we are a lot better without Williams.

He might be good coming on at 65 minutes

Thought Blackett was OK, and he has pedigree will probably improve with games. I like Obita but he has had a fair amount of criticism.

I'd like to see Harriot get game time. For me he is a match-winner.

If Swift is out I'd try McCleary at 10 and Harriot wide.

Much as I think that's our best XI (Whoops - missed Obita in for Blackett - though that's highly debateable at present), I don't think Williams will be dropped after a win where to took such a cool pen. Evans might get a rest after his nearly red.. probably for Swift as Stam seems less keen on Quinn.

You're probably right on Williams, but Swift, Williams almost means one full-on reliable midfielder

Swift is a number 10 and Williams plays for himself.

I think we need two "proper midfielders" otherwise we will be over-run

VDB + Kelly or Evans or Quinn + EITHER Swift or Williams would be my thinking

Can't understand the Williams hate, he's been excellent under Stam and we really need him to drive us forward with the ball at his feet when we're struggling to pass through the thirds. The 'runs down blind alleys' cliche is complete rubbish too, most of his forward runs end with a pass out to the wingers in good areas.

IMO team should be:

Al-Habsi
Gunter
McShane
Moore
Obita

JVDB

Swift
Williams

McCleary
Kermogant
Beerens

When it is played long to Kermogant it's essential that the wingers run infield and behind Yann - he won so many flicks into great areas against Ipswich but the wingers never anticipated them and we're always stuck out wide.

--------------------AAH
Gunter McShane Moore Blackett
--------------------vdB
-------------Evans---Swift
-McCleary----------------Beerens
--------------Kermorgant

Give GMac and Beerens the opportunity to swap if we're gettig no joy and bring in a couple of changes early with Harriot and Williams around 60-65

It's probably the one thing we agree about... I just don't get the feeling Stam agrees. Hence McShane and VDB with Evans, Swift, Williams early on, rather than McShane and Cooper with VDB, Evans and Swift
