Extended-Phenotype Yeah. About as likely as Church scoring a goal intentionally or that wasn't going in already.

Were you born sub-normal or do you work at it?

What would you know about work, dolemuncher? The most you’ve sweated is when deleting your internet history.

Don't be silly, they won't be able to put their pin number in SJM's chip and pin machine if they've got no arms.

ooh, that hurts! I like the dole muncher idea though. As I have never claimed a single benefit since the day I was born (nearly 60 years ago) and am in full time employment (after 36 years in the Army - when I sweated on the odd occasion) that is a bit silly really though. Further evidence of your status I think?

Ok, ok - I get it. This isn't a f//ing dating forum, so save me the personal summary and stick to football. Unless you want to PM me, of course. Do you still have your uniform?

SouthDownsRoyal 2 goals and hes a super star?

No, TWENTY-two goals, and not a star, just a player with potential

5,134 Minutes - - 22 Goals and 06 Assists - - 233 Minutes per Goal - - 183 Minutes per Goal/Assist 2009-2012 Reading Career

UPDATE

No, TWENTY-THREE goals, and not a star, just a player with potential

5,145 Minutes - - 23 Goals and 06 Assists - - 223 Minutes per Goal = a goal every 2.5 games.

I've always been a massive fan based on his first few games for reading, but ill admit he's been badly off form ever since with his nadir last season coinciding with Long's brilliance. I had just given up and decided I was wrong but now look at him. Coppell, Rodgers, McDermott all rated him for his potential. Finally it might now be unlocked.

Snowball All my instincts told me Shane was a better player than Church
and would be a very good one, playing in the Premiership.

Job Done.

But Simon Church is, what, just 23? And strikers peak at 26-27
and he HAS shown a very decent goals-per-minute rate, and had
a good season scoring 13 goals at 1 every 180 minutes.

That suggests he could yet be at least a top-end Championship player.

I don't feel a lift in my heart when Simon comes on, but his stats say he's better than the HNA perception of him.

but then..

Why am I not surprised?

So THAT'S what a bet being hedged sounds like.....

Nothing HEDGED about it.

What I am talking about is the stats tell the truth,
and subjective opinion is very often wrong.

MY subjective opinion is no better or worse than any other fan's.

I STILL am not pleased when Church is starting. He's the club's top-scorer.
I STILL am not pleased when Church is starting. He's scored more goals in 200 minutes less.
I STILL am not pleased when Church is starting. He's doing far better than Hunt.

I am on record for YEARS now as saying the stats will out. I proved my case with Shane Long and Jimmy.

I am also on record as saying that strikers keep developing until 26/27/28

I am also on record, all through last season and some of this as saying:

"My gut-feeling is Churchy can't do it, or won't,

BUT HE HAS PROVED HE HAS THE ABILITY

with 13 goals at 1 every 180 minutes in 2009-10
"

So get off your high horse

We'll see how he goes, and I'd love to see him come good and force himself into a good partnership with Le Fondre (who I hope bags another goal soon). But whilst Church has scored a few recently, he hasn't really seemed to leave a big mark on the game otherwise. Not necessarily a flaw, but I don't really see Church as just a goal poacher. Fine when he's scoring as now... we'll see how it goes.

I wonder if he's perhaps a little too similar to ALF, although they're doing ok.

Overall, 1,159 minutes this season, 6 goals (and a good goal disallowed)

a goal every 193 minutes

If you look at league-only it's 6 in 1,069 = 178 minutes

If the ref had allowed the Blackpool Goal it would be a goal every 166 minutes

His good season was 2,343 Minutes, 12 goals = a goal every 174 minutes.

I doubt that is a coincidence

In other words, he is scoring at the same rate as his good season, and as yet, is hardly 100% confident.

Despite how he might "look" (and not inspire confidence) he, quite simply, GETS GOALS.

Prior to last season, Shane Long had scored 28 Goals in 4 Seasons. Church has scored 23 in 2.5 Seasons

and he's younger, with a deeper skills-base (but not strength/speed/heading ability)

This, really. As you say, fine when he's scoring - Cureton rarely had much impact on the game save for his goals - but if he's not then he isn't doing much at all. And I don't see him as a Cureton, either now or in future. But long may his current scoring form continue.

The way he plays, he ought to offer more than he's seemed to in the last couple of games. Creating space and linking up play seemed to be his game from what I've seen of him. Le Fondre does it a shit load better though. Strange because on reputation for Le Fondre and judging on Church's style of play, I'd have expected the man with just goals to be ALF and the one with goals and assists to be Church.

Worth saying again though, beautiful goal.
