He's called Williams, so this was a shoe in.

How many is that now?

Well, in all the years I've been supporting Reading, we've had:

Jerry Williams
Adrian Williams
Martin Williams

and now

Marcus Williams.

Dunno about Reading players with the Williams surname before 1985 though.

Messiah
Ian Royal
Messiah Playing for Scunthorpe is in no way a negative. That's the sort of billy big bollocks comment that I wouldn't expect to see from a 'little old Reading' supporter.

In response to the exact same point by Big Foot, Ian Royal I didn't say they were all valid. And Scunthorpe did conceed 90 goals this season.

Yet we were leaking goals left, right and centre before BM took over, and the same players that were so inconsistant and at times pretty awful, turned it around. Very harsh indeed to mock where he's come from based on a teams poor defending.

You really are stupid aren't you? I'm not mocking anything, I summarised the pros and cons people had come up with on the thread.

We conceeded 61 league goals and about 33 under Rodgers. Not exactly in Scunny's league of 90. Not that it's really important. I have nothing against the signing and am really quite positive about the lad.

If you actually dig a bit deeper the stats aren't as bad as that.

In the league Scunthorpe conceded 84 goals.
In the matches Williams played (37) they conceded 58 goals.
In the matches he didn't play (9) they conceded 26.

With Williams - 1.57 goals per game conceded
Without WIlliams - 2.89 goals per game conceded

Quite a difference.

15 different spells by a Williams at the club since 1920 ....

Before you ask, Smith's have had 18 spells since 1920 if you include WW2.

Anyone got a spare life they're not using?

Strap, I love that database of yours. Just one question - what the hell does the "Bowyer" column show!

Well that says some quite good things (if possibly misleading) about him.

Either it's about drug taking in which case Byron Glasgow and Andy McLaren will feature in it, or it's about racial abuse, in which case John Mackie will feature.

John Mackie, where is he now?

Well according to: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Mackie_%28footballer%29

"He signed for AFC Hornchurch on 18 January 2008, he has since retired from the game and now runs a fruit and veg stall in Camden Market. On 7 August 2008, Mackie signed for Hertford Town F.C. in a semi-professional capacity."

Strange one with Williams. In the sumer it was obvious we needed a replacement left back after Bertrand went back to Chelsea and the indications were that they weren't going to loan him out again, even though they did in the end. I suspect if we'd known that Stretch would make such a good return we'd have lived with it for the first five games of the season. Signing Harte was still a good move IMO but I think Stretch will regain the LB spot during the course of the season and Harte will become a utility player. As for Williams, it's difficlut to see a future for him at Reading at the moment.

Double LOL, free transfers from scunthorpe are certainly not the type of positivity I'd like my club to be offering.
