I think with Andresson and CBC already under contract, letting go of Southwood makes economic sense, despite his clean sheets, his underlying stats aren't impressive.

Some of the ones let go are disappointing but nothing overly alarming I would say, thought Rashawn Scott was highly thought of but I suppose that wasn't the case.

Can't argue too much with any of that. Not too clued up on the youngsters sill will need someone like R&R or SCIAG to add a bit more context.

Obviously good they've offered a long contract to CBC. Hopefully John Clarke does stay though, as he did look pretty decent in his handful of first team appearances.

Would obviously love Mbengue to stay, think he is a real gem and L1 experience would be brilliant for him. Meite if the wages are right and he stays fit - yeah will be one of the better players in the league, no brainer. Not too fussed about Hoilett, but I wonder if that will be an avenue into coaching/mentoring as well.

Not sure with Meite. Obvs at his best he could ruin L1 but the two major issues of his injury record and lack of versatility concern me. If he’s happy to accept a wage reflecting this then ok. But expect him to move

We all love Meite, right. But he's got to go. Sat on the injury table for most of the league one season just doesn't make any sense.

I think you can risk carrying a small amount of injury prone players who, if fit, will bring real quality to the squad, which Meite will do and is probably worth the risk. Our main problem of the last couple seasons is having an entire squad of injury prone players so we notice it more when a player is missing for long periods of time.

Disappointed for Tetek as I thought he could have done something in League 1 but he's been permacrocked for 2 years.

Yes, a bit of a shame for Tetek, but logical by the club.

Brogue right can we have a list for each position now then, please?

With the retained list now out, here's how #ReadingFC's squad looks.

Six players with futures to sort (they're in grey).

Have included George Puscas until his obligated transfer is ratified, while Michael Craig not getting a mention today suggests he's still in contract anyway.

You need to add Carson as well

Assume he’ll be considered for the first team if he signs

I can understand offering Meite a deal, although I doubt he will accept and I wouldn't be too disappointed if he doesn't. Be a big risk with his recent injury record but would absolutely tear up League One if we can keep him fit over the course of the season.

Hoilett makes a bit of sense, although only for one more season. Dorsett is a critical decision for him personally, we've obviously got faith that he will make it. Maybe us dropping down a league will make a difference for him, but he struggled last season for various reasons, but hopefully the club are right with that decision.

Mbengue would be good to get signed on again whereas the rest are par for the course and expected. Hopefully Boyce-Clarke accepts his deal, seems like we've got faith he will make it as well.

I’m sure we can do plenty better than Hoilett. Poor decision that. But others as expected and I’m ok with

As requested- Scott no loss in my opinion. Really hope Matty Carson and John Clarke stay. The only other thing really is that i hope Michael Stickland and Harvey Maunder can overcome the serious injuries which the pair have suffered and that next season they can show us what decent players they are.

For me Hoilett is a no brainer at a reasonable wage. He's the ultimate L1 squad player.

Good enough on his day to do some damage and at a pinch can cover right back, left back, right wing back, left wing back, right wing, left wing, attacking midfielder and second striker in the case of an injury crisis.

With him.we can have a smaller squad relying more on academy players because we know we can plug him in and use his experience if we need to.

But he’s not much good at any of them. Would rather spend his wage on an experienced specialist.

We’ve plenty of players (Yiadom, McIntyre, Mbengue hopefully, Azeez, Ince, NGW etc) who can do a job in multiple positions.

NathStPaul Sam Smith I would take back. Not normally in favour of having anyone back at the club who we have moved on but I think he'd definitely do a job for us in League 1.

Agree with this. Wouldn't be huge wages either. If he can bang in 10-15 again that'd be decent

Hound https://www.readingfc.co.uk/news/2023/may/17/new-deals-offered-as-contracts-come-to-their-conclusion/

Here we go - haven’t seen it pasted anywhere yet

Things of interest. Tetek and Southwood released. Along with some u21s inc Scott and Osorio

NGW extended. Mbengue offered two years. Also Clarke, Dorsett, Carson, CBC offered new deals.

Meite and Hoilett (sigh) also in talks of staying in. Surely Meite won’t?

Ha - maybe the club saw my post.

Surprised and disappointed to see Southwood go. Also surprised we're trying to keep Meite and Hoilett. Meite will get championship offers, I can see him going somewhere like QPR or even to Ligue 1. Hoilett is meh but he'll do a job! Think as others have posted we could probably do better. He should be a squad player at best, Azeez and Camara hopefully will get plenty of minutes as will Ince and Meite if they stay.

I think he can still do a decent job. As said before, was comfortably one of our better players up until about October time. Think he was somewhat burnt out starting Saturday - Tuesday - Saturday every week and his form hit a cliff (also the caveat of having the World Cup to prepare for too probably didn’t help)

The fact he didn’t register a single assist is disappointing and certainly expect better. But personally think out of him, Rahman, Yiadom and NGW, he was easily the best WB we had last season and it wasn’t even his natural position

Not that I think it’s much of a coincidence as our form wasn’t particularly great before his injury but in the two months he was out injured, we registered 0 wins. 42 points in 31 starts is a decent haul, 8 points in 15 where he didn’t start is really poor (and you liked your PPG stats when it suited your Ejaria agenda  )
