DOYLERSAROYALER
Svlad Cjelli
DOYLERSAROYALER ...but surely its on the pitch that counts ??....dont really care what he does off the pitch ...if that doesnt translate into a winning team then hes wasting his time

It's not as simple as that.

Without him the team might be even worse - and with the best captain in the world they might still not win games.

You can't read as much as you are into a link between level of captaincy and winning/losing of games.

Svald ...point taken in the main....but your comment above highlighted...hardly imho

the point is that there's absolutely no way we can know that one way or another.

The amount of venom on this thread - ridiculous.

Nice one Jobi - has bust a gut for this club this season & truly led by example. Bloody good captain & complete pro on & off the field..... What a surprise Brian knows more than your average Reading fan.

recall when we signed him, and the Watford/Palarse/etc HNA interlopers said that he would "flatter to decieve" and would eventually let us down when it really mattered.

I must agree

Jobi....you have let us down ....no Champions League this season....get back to Wimbledon!!!

...and could you point out where the quoted "venom" is OR is it anything that doesn't go with your godly thinking is considered venom ...?.

Oh and under thread BALD MAN APPOINTED FULL-TIME... I dont suppose you recall writing this Post do you MmmMonsterMunch................

MmmMonsterMunch Oh dear - League 1 is nailed on now.

Madejski you are a w***** of the highest order. How you have the nerve to do interviews on BBCRB saying you want this club in the PL is beyond me.

Hang your head in shame. What a disaster. 2 relegations in 3 seasons. Excellent leadership Sir John you t0sser.

Think its a case of pot..kettle...black there :D

Everyone gets it wrong sometimes... it's just generally there are a few people who get it drastically wrong, for no reason other than blind bias and in a nasty way. And a few of those regularly do so.

And you damn well know people would be coming back and lording how they'd been right with a negative prediction turning out correct, so why the hell not get the same with a positive one. Maybe it'll teach people a lesson.

Just claim you were right at the time, but he really stepped up... and that penalties don't count. :?

McAnuff seems to really divide opinion on here. Lots of us really rate him & there are lots who don't. Those that do were happy to see him get the armband I suspect..

I for one did not think Jobi McAnuff was the right selection for captain at the start of the season; Gorkss when he joined was my choice.

As the season developed the players started to believe and Jobi McAnuff as a leader developed more and more with his media interviews, very level headed, learning more week by week, to become the leader that Brian McDermott saw in him at the start the of the campaign.

For Reading FC to win the championship for the second time in six years is something special for the fans, but to lift the Championship Trophy as a club captain is something very special that only a few players in the career get to do, well done Jobi.

Blimey DOYLERSAROYALER, you need to relax a bit there, who was singling you out as wrong?

Of course we all get it wrong sometimes (although not often myself of course).

IMO it's better to have and discuss an opinion than not have one at all but it just turns out that plenty on this thread got it wrong, and personally I think wrong without any foundation in how they were labelling McAnuff as a bad captain or how much of an impact that was having on results.

I'm a massive McAnuff fan and think he's prolly Reading's most underrated player. Without looking at this thread, I *think* I was pleased he got the armband at the time but started to doubt myself at the start of the season when Jobi wasn't really performing up to his usual standards.

The end justifies the means and all that so clearly his appointment can't be faulted. However we'll never know what may have happened if eg. Gorkss was captain. We may have got 90pts this season, there's no way of telling.

So I guess what i'm saying is stop bumping old threads, it's totally pointless.

Personally I think it's interesting to see how perceptions and opinions change over time.
