If Rooney had scored some of the goals Kitson has this season everyone would be saying how wonderful he was.

With the exception of Rooney Kitson is IMO the best available English striker at present.

That is fricking frightning regardless of whether it's true or not.

Kitson and Agbonlahor future of English goalscoring internationally!

Royal Rother I wonder what Kitson and the club would do if someone offered him £50kpw on a £10m fee next week. Not beyond the realms of possibility.

Everything he has said recently suggests he would hate to play for a team like Chelsea, Man Utd or Liverpool, but I wonder....

Still, at least Lita might get a game then.

Of course if Spurs offered that......

If Kitson keeps playing the way he has been.. stays injury free and keeps scoring, then maybe he might get a call up to England B or something. Which is a bizarre thought really, but he is class!

Good post. Nail on head. Staying injury free is the key with Kits. He has an astonishing goal scoring record but injuries have robbed him of a couple of seasons.
At 27 time is not on his side to start playing at International level..but if he stays injury free and continues playing like he has been then why not see him playing for England next season.

Funnily enough Sheringham didn't break into the England setup until he was 27 either. With the similarities between their style maybe it's an omen.

For the record I think Sheringham was a better, and probably importantly fitter, player than our Kits.

Probably so HB...although Sherringham was luckier than Kits with injuries....but there is a comparison between the way they both read the game and appear one step ahead of others.

It will be fantastic if Kit does get a chance.

I think Owen, in particular, would really enjoy playing with someone who has the same presence as Heskey in the air but more skill and vision on the deck.................................if Dave keeps banging them in, I can see this happening :P

Don't be stupid, he will never play for England, in fact I would go as far to say it is very, very unlikely too....

Where's diddly - the voice of reason gone...?

So many experts....

I still stand by my original statements, however i believe a national team should be picked on players that are playing regular and playing well, England dont always do this, they tend to favor the 'big club' players, regardless of form, you only have to look at the Croatia game where Shorey got dropped for a certain CB?.

Rooney, Owen, Crouch, Defoe, Bent, Agbonlahor, Nugent, Ashton, As fantastic as he is playing now, would he be picked in front of any of these? i doubt it.

Im not slagging him off at all, just pointing out the reality of the situation

He is certainly a better bet than Nugent at the moment!

and i agree at the moment he is, but he has the advantage of having played for England before , and having played regular at U21 level, for some in the FA that is enough to warrant a squad place, regardless of current form

True but based on his performances against Championship defences. He will be well down the pecking order now.

I would pick Kits before a number of those players

for example:

Owen - always injured, does bugger all when he isnt
Crouch- Never plays for his club
Defoe - ditto
Nugent - useless
Ashton - outplayed by kits last week

:P

And neither are you (There is a God :? )

As Pearcey mentions, if you think there's the slightest chance of Nugent getting picked over Kitson anytime soon, your grip on "reality" remains as detached as ever...............

even if you take him out of the equation there is others as mentioned, how can you argue that bar injury, Kitson would be picked over Owen?

Where have you been over the last ten years?

The first capello England squad will be an interesting one, for a man who is well known for his "unusual choices", Mark Hately said in an intervview that he picks players you least expect him to, so I for one dont expect him to pick "name" players, and if this is so and you look for the top English goalscorers this season, then Kits falls into that mould, he has been a class apart from the rest of the English brigade so far, Ashton, Nugent, Defoe & Johnson must be well behind him in the pecking order !! Brilliant this season Kits should by right be under the spotlight, not just at Reading but within thewhole Premiership he has been the out and out class act amongst English strikers.
