glass half full How times have changed!

A few years ago, we had such a paucity of young players with potential that we would have been unable to have a discussion. Thankfully we now have an enviable Academy setup which has a supply of decent players.

The future is bright; the future is blue and white hoops!

Interesting that you should post that.
On the way to the game having heard the line-up on Radio Berks I was thinking that there was not a single player in our starting side today who came through The Academy.
Two products ,Church and HRK, came on in the second half and showed yet again that they are no better than Div 1 standard.
We have just bought FIVE players of the age where they would be a year or so out of The Academy-yes FIVE players BOUGHT!!
So your idea of a decent supply of players seems a bit off the mark.

I agree with the sentiment of the original post but it is probably a bit early but say from near the end of March onwards I agree that young players should be brought in (didn't Watford have two 18 year-olds out there today? ) and the manager should be brave enough to give them a chance to shine rather than giving countless opportunities to the likes of Church and HRK who may well be playing elsewhere next season.

Good point, Victor. The key word in my post is, of course, 'potential' but Jem is one case in point. Let us hope that my faith in the future is justified.

i believe our youth need a chance , sir john and mcd have proven they will NOT spend money regardless who we sell which come the summer will be half our squad i can see feds, long, kebe, karacan all going aswell as harte griffin ivar all being too old to push for promotion we are nearly safe why not let church prove himself and let cummings, williams, morrison, antonio and hrk play some football so we can try and push next year its not fair on the fans buying season tickets to watch a average team finish mid table because we fail to win games

I don't think you can blame McDermott for not spending money, it's all about how much (or little) he's allowed to spend.

So you believe our youth need a chance, but also that we should acquire expensive loan signings that would presumably be in the team ahead of our young players?

yes because we cant just play a youth team, i would love to see the youth players getting a chance i.e antonio and cummings but we would need a few decent loan signings to push and help the younger players especially come the end of the season when we will loose the experience we have

people were saying the academy is good/shit, and producing the sig is a sign that it is good, regardless of whether we sold him or not.
surely for as club like us, selling our academy products is the surest way to making a viable football club

& oxf*rd off you cock end

Ideal I think we can all agree this season is effectively over.

I disagree, is it mathematically impossible to get into the play-offs? If not, then the season is not over. And we're still in the FA Cup!

Don't give up, man!

Probably a good thing to do from a business point of view. We are probably gonna lose any or all of Long, Kebe, McAnuff and Feds over the summer. It would be wise to see what if anything of value we have to replace them from within.
