Huntley & Palmer Is it only me that notices this but are our fans the only one's to have the ability to boo a player or official at every game we play in this league.
At Utd it was Ronaldo, Rooney and Stiles
At Chelsea it was Cech, Lampard, Drogba, Pizarro, the referee, Mourinho
At Everton it was Johnson, Howard, the whole Everton team and the referee and his officials again.
I'd understand if some of it is justifiable but for the most part it is laughable. Why on Earth were people booing Everton for not kicking the ball into touch when Oster was injured? Bennett quite rightly allowed play to continue as it was not a serious injury, Everton continued to do so yet RFC fans were foaming at the mouth. The talk before this season and last was that you didn't have to kick the ball out for an injury as the referee would stop the game if it is deemed serious enough. Oster, whilst turning over on his ankle was also play acting to waste some time.
The small mindedness of our support beggars belief sometimes. Why can't we focus on getting behind the team and supporting them rather than handing the away team the extra motivation they often need to score against us. It's happened on countless occassions now with Johnson, Lampard, Ronaldo, Heskey and a few others. Let's sort it out please
Oh and can someone tell me who is on the boo hitlist for Bolton away.
I totally agree mate and I'm quickly coming to the conclusion that the money I've spent on my ST is gonna bring me more heartache than joy this year. The fans in the stadium seem more intent on either goading the away fans or negatively shouting at the pitch then trying to back the team.
As a fanbase, there seems to be a lot of pent up, negative aggression in the stands. Does that come from being a town full of IT staff and middle management? I'm included in that list by the way and often wonder why the hatred against fans, teams and refs is so OTT at RFC. We have no derby rivals, no real grudge matches with any history and yet there's always very little in the way of support for the team but loads of boo'ing, insults, etc for the opposition team, fans or refs. We class a good atmosphere as a series of loud chants for brief periods or 'Blarmy' sung at 800bpm for 15 secs.
This is highlighted by the stadium being so quiet when we're getting beat - right up until the away fans sing at the RFC crowd and not in support of their team - we answer those cat calls fairly quick. And I know it happens all round the country but not quite to the levels it seems to at RFC.
The win against Everton felt good but our lack of support was noticeable when we were 1 - 0 up while Oster was being treated and all the crowd chanted was asking Hahnemann the score.
When those periods happen, it would be great to sing each players chant. At the very least, it passes the time during an anxious period when we had been under pressure and there's still a fair few mins left on the clock.
I think the Liverpool Kop have a campaign to try and bring back support chants for the teams rather than goading for the away fans and that was noticeable during the game yesterday. Liverpool fans sung to their team all game, while you could hear the Chelsea fans with the 'your support is f***ing sh!t' style chants (on of my personally most hated things to hear).
It's no wonder we hate Chelsea so much, there's so much in their fanbase that's replicated in ours.
Refereeing standards, big team bias, don't stand / swear etc attitudes is all getting a bit boring for me this year. I know this will incite all the usual 'football is for families now / it's a different game, etc' replies but I couldn't care less.
Walking out of the Chelsea game and hearing a girl and her mate in Y25 say that 'The game was rubbish but I got to see Frank Lampard' summed it all up for me.
Monday morning rant over. I usually cheer up by lunch.
