floyd__streete I couldn't give a damn about Southampton. Certainly not whipping myself up into a frenzy over some sort of deluded faux-rivalry. Just another team really. As we normally do pretty well against them I can certainly tolerate their existence but they don't even remotely register on the hatred richter scale for me. Still, you knock yourselves out pretending that this is in any way shape or form a grudge match.

I couldn't actually remember seeing us play them, so I looked it up. 10 wins, 12 draws, 13 loses. Mind you, we've only played them five times in the last 30 years, so I don't think it really counts.
(I don't remember the 2006 game, even though I must have been there, but I do now remember Souness moaning about the frozen pitch at Elm Park.)

rabidbee Yeah, the FA Cup game in 97 the players wore some kind of trainers with blades instead of studs, because the pitch was rock hard. I don't remember too much of the match, but looking at the stats the Saints had two off, so no wonder Souey was livid.
Good.

Bill Oddie's Beard Yeah, weren't the sendings off pretty late on tho? We already had the game wrapped up iirc

The Cap Haven't gotta clue what the So'ton fans think but I wonder if any of 'em remember getting done at Elm Park (something like Lambert & Caskey as scorers I seem to recall), with Big Clive 'The Leg-end' Goddard shepherding Souness off the pitch/skating rink at the end. Ahhh, memories

Mad Dog's Ghost Re the pubs in Whitley comment - they're all shut down now.
Floyd, know what you mean but one of my earliest footballing memories is 25,000 packed into elm park for league cup game with saints in 79. Brilliant atmosphere. Got on to the Tilehurst end 2 hours before kick off for a good position. 22,000 at Dell for replay with a huge Reading following. To me, this remains a fairly big game.

Jackson Corner I remember that night well. Hard to believe you could get that many in EP. The keeper played a blinder that night was it Terry Genoe? We also beat them in the league cup in 95, Trevor Morley with a cracking header a really good game from what I remember.
