Duxbury confirms Reading have expressed interest in Adrian Mariappa but a deal has not been done & Zola would like to keep him #WatfordFC
Zola has told him he wants him to stay but wont stand in his way if he wants to go. Now we wait to see if we go back in.
New Watford manager Gianfranco Zola has admitted he won’t stand in Adrian Mariappa’s way if he wants to leave the club.
The 25-year-old defender is the Hornets’ reigning player of the year but his fine form has attracted interest from Premier League sides including Reading and Wigan.
And although Zola is keen to keep Mariappa at Vicarage Road he knows the lure of top-flight football may prove too strong.
"Adrian I know is a very good player and was one of the best last year," he said.
"Obviously we want to keep him but we understand it is not only our decision, also it's Adrian's.
"I understand he maybe has the possibility to go to the Premier League and I won't step in front of him and stop him if he wants to go."
