readingbedding Booing your own players is the lowest of the low.

You cannot call yourself a true fan of the game - let alone the club you support.

RB, I didn't boo Seol on Tuesday night because that is just not the kind of person that I am. I couldn't bring myself to abuse a player in such a way. I would personally use methods of support and encouragement.

However, I defend the fans who did boo Seol. They had every right to. They pay their money to watch the side and Seol couldn't be ar*sed. That is a huge insult to the fans when a player who is on thousands a week, when the fans are paying £30 a ticket, cannot be ars*ed to bother performing!

And players do respond to harsh critisicm from the fans. They might go away afterwards and cry about it for a few days, and then other players might put their arm around and say, the fans are nobs but if you want the fans to be behind you your gonna have to work harder.

At the end of the day, fans are not stoopid. Fans can accept a player who doesn't have ability...... But they will not accept a player who doesn't try hard.

If a player fights for everything but is still rubbish, the fans will still back them. The only player who has ever been the exception to that rule was Andy Hughes. I could never understand the booing of Andy Hughes. That was completely out of order because the lad gave everything for the Royals. He played to the best of his ability.

Seol on the other hand isn't trying hard enough. That is completely unacceptable.

'Fans' who boo their own players are complete tossers and that is the double truth ruth.

Small men,big mouths.

Royalee Spot on jumpers for goalposts and Top Flight, at least there are some intelligent posters on here.

says the man from Bournemouth Uni.........

Top flight at least present his arguments well - even if the logic behind them is missing. You dont even do that! So it takes some guile to actually comment on the quality of a post!

Top Flight If I was a player and I heard the fans shouting at me and telling me I'm crap, I would be embarrassed that it got to that point and I would raise my game to try and prove them wrong!

Different people react differently to abuse.

Fact is, Seol didn't try when he was being encouraged and supported.

So what else do the fans have?????

If he aint gonna respond to encouragement then lets try booing him and see if he responds to that!

If he aint gonna bother working hard either way, then he may as well go and be replaced!

Don't worry about Coppell, he is ruthless enough. He won't shout and abuse the player but if he carries on underperforming. He will certainly be wielding his axe.

Alas you've fallen into the trap of assuming that a player who is very skilful is automatically 'not trying' if he has a period out of form. Surely its not too difficult to think that skilful players can lose their form sporadically and that it isnt down to lack of effort - its just that there form goes for a while. Have you ever tried as hard as you can but still not play very well - I know I have many times! . In the end the dream of every player is to play in the Premiership - every player will try - its just that some will not be in form.

I just wish you would take Coppels example and not shout and bawl.

You need a dictionary mate. Effort and form are two completely different things. A player can play poorly, misskick the ball, have poor control and so on, but he'll still chase and try - the trying part is called effort and desire. Without effort and desire you will never obtain 'form' because you will never be in a position to sustain anything. The only people who achieve something for nothing are lottery winners and Uri Gellar.

Exactly - Sol is going through a rough patch and we need to stay with him to get him through it. Anyone who thinks booing him will make him play better has a screw loose. And for those who say he hasn't played well since the start of the season I thought he was great away at Brum in the cup...

I have clearly said that effort and form are completely different things!!! Someone can put in a lot of effort but still not be in form - its you who cannot seaprate the two - you equate someone in form as someone who is now trying. You link them by saying that if someone doesnt put in the effort they cant be in form. I cant believe you managed to contradict yourself in the space of two sentences. Actually why am I surprised.

Even you can do better than that.

Got to say that ignoring the first few games, I don't think he has done much, but would never dream of booing a player off the pitch.. That's just silly...

And as I have said.. he does seem to disappear for durations of the game.. Hunt does not..

You really do lack the ability to read. As has been previously stated, there have been players down the years who have tried but not been good enough. However, Seol clearly is of a good enough standard technically as he showed at the beginning of the season and if he was 'out of form', do you think he'd have had enough quality to hit that shot in the first half? Of course not, it would have hit the corner flag.

The frustrating thing is that I know he can do that when he has the ball and I'd put him in the top 5-10 wingers in the Premiership when he wants it, but he never looks for the ball, chases or tackles at the moment, which is something I and many other fans can't put up with.

Erm.................. Firstly, I didn't shout and bawl at Seol....... As stated earlier I don't boo our players but I defend fans who do boo players because they have every right to after paying extortinate prices to watch the Royals.

Secondly, I felt from the first game of the season against Boro that Seol is a lazy boy...... Its obvious he has talent and he can be effective with it. But he has always been a lazy player. The reason fans didn't get on to Seol earlier is because he set up two goals against Boro, Scored a smashing winner at Sheff Utd and West Ham and seemed to have a positive impact despite being lazy.

However the early magic is fading in the rampant pace of the Premier League and to be a top player you need to have talent but you also need to work hard.

It is not acceptable to not try. Seol hasn't been trying hard from day one and fans have the right to pull him up on that!

Fans have always been questioning a players work rate and attitude.
Its just that nowadays there seems to be a new breed of supporter emerging who is politically correct and overly civilized.......

Why shouldn't fans be able to express their views that a player is underperforming?

Why do this new breed of super civilized supporter think its such a crime to boo a player. Do you seriously think that Seol is gonna be completely traumatised by the whole situation? If Seol doesn't wanna be booed then he should work his Ass off...... Fans won't boo a player who tries hard!

Do people think that Seol is so weak that he can't take some booing or harsh criticism? That in itself is an insult to Seol.

I am sure Seol is man enough to take it on the chin, do brush himself down and give a damn good performance next time he wears the shirt.

If he isn't gonna try hard any time soon then do we really care if he leaves us? No! We want players here who wanna work hard for the team and win for the Royals. So far Seol is not showing himself to be a winner. That is counter to everything Coppell is trying to achieve.

We need winners at our club. Players like Sidwell, Shorey, Doyla, Kitson, Murty, Sonko who give everything to the team.

If Seol has anything about himself as a man, then he will come out next game and give 100% effort and keep that up. The lad needs to prove that he can play week in week out in the Premier League. Its all up to Seol and how much he wants it.

jumpers for goalposts Doesn't this whole debate come down to what sort of fan you are? There are many fans, including the blokes that sit in front of me, that are what I will call RFC drones. They are essentially a cloned man, who will shout expletives at the linesman and referee whenever a descision goes against us e.g their 3rd goal when Solskjaer was clearly on side. They basically can't think for themselves, and make every descision through some kind of 'loyalty' to the club. Therefore they can't bring themselves to criticise Seol.

I consider myself in another group. I love the club, but am willing to accept that sometimes our players do go down a bit to easily, and opposition goals were onside. I rarely shout expletives at the officials. I like to think that I can think for myself, and will criticise a player of ours if I think he isn't performing. It's all very well saying we most not criticise our own, but that whole philosophy is ridiculous. Do you also believe that West Ham fans for example, should not criticise their players, even though they are playing shite, out of some kind of misguided 'loyalty' to the club?

Has anyone said that players should not be criticised? I think that 'abused' is the word that you need to consider.
