Yellowcoat Meanwhile back in the real world.

You mean the one where numerous other championship & league clubs have acquired investment?

loyalroyaldaz Ha ha ha , Lee oxf*rd Hendrie ?
He is well passed his best and a nasty little shit as well !

McDermott added that Hendrie has received a glowing reference from other Reading players.

"Brian Howard knows him really well, Andy Griffin knows him well and Ian Harte knows him well. They have all spoken really highly of him and hold him in very high regard.

"So I believe it'll be good to have him with us but we'll see him in training and go from there."

Really MMM show me all these clubs that have actually sourced investment. Most of them have mortgaged their future against hoped for income. There is not a queue of buyers or banks or financial institutions looking to plough money in even though you still dream they will. Football has become riskier and FIFA and others will be applying more controls. The sensible clubs will not be taking a risk just so you can have something to brag about.

Whats so galling about all of this is, of course, that what Mr Mad is doing is MORALLY right; we have a financial black hole and its filled by selling an asset (and securing a good price for it as well).

Not a short term populist thing to do but hey, thats the sort of thing many many businesses are doing at this moment in time.

Meanwhile, we see football clubs who have decided that what they have to do is spend spend spend, with money they don't have, in trying to secure the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow. You cannot tell me that teams like Leicester, Cardiff and Nottingham Forest have the income to match their expenditure, yet they seem oblivious to the fact that they are digging themselves deeper and deeper into the financial quicksand that, if there was any justice in the World, will consume them at some point in the future.

This transfer window has seen a sad legacy of Pompey's survival; that other clubs have been reinforced in their belief that it doesn't matter if you are financially stuffing youself for the future, all that matters is the now. I genuine believe that had Pompey gone to the wall this Summer, you would have seen a LOT of clubs selling assets and very few splashing the cash.

What's so wrong with a mortgage exactly?! I have one as do millions of others - I see it as an INVESTMENT too or is that hard for you to grasp?
Look at Birmingham, Wigan, Bolton, Stoke, Fulham et al they are doing just fcuking fine thanks.

JM is waiting for a mammoth payday.

Part of running a good business is trying generate decent revenue streams long term not just rely on getting lucky with cheapo signings & big fees from selling academy players. If you don't like risk then don't be a fcuking businessman as risk is inherrent in any business.

If you don't like watching 'cheapo signings', who exactly have you been watching for the last five years or so?

Possibly you are jealous of Madejski? He has clearly been successful enough in business to buy the football team you - for want of a better word here - 'support', build it a shiny new stadium and put his name on it. If only any of us had taken the risks he did and become as successful as him - perhaps we might have been in his position instead

Can't wait to see Hendrie making mincemeat out of Bellamy & Harte winning the golden boot. You're right I need to calm down & enjoy the footy.

Stranger things have happened! Harte scored 18 goals last season - how many did Bellamy get? Believe it's already 2-1 to Harte this season, too...

Why would I be jealous of him? The guy is bloody weird & has copper statues of women is his bedroom as no real one would dare go in there.

We are just turning into a team of journeymen. Obviously we can't turn down £7m for Gylfi that's too good an offer but at least re-invest it in someone remotely youthful with potentia.....l not 33 yr olds on their last legs.

You may have a point there - the mighty Carlisle face tough opposition when compared to minnows like Man u & Chelsea.

MmmMonsterMunch What's so wrong with a mortgage exactly?!
Nothing wrong with it so long as :
a) A bank will bankroll it and
b) you have the means to pay it off.
If I recall, the banks last summer called in a chunk of overdraft which could be scuppering a) and
for b) I guess you think the club has got more revenue than the club thinks it has.

MmmMonsterMunch If you don't like risk then don't be a fcuking businessman as risk is inherrent in any business.
Hope you didn't post about the banks taking all those risks a few years back then.

We will never generate decent revenue streams unless certain risks are taken though - it's chicken & egg. We can't keep going against the grain & bucking the trend. Modern day football doesn't work like that!

No I didn't post anything about the banks as this is royals.org not royalbankofscotland.org last time I checked.

The money is maybe being held for loans or until the January xfer window.
If nothing significant has happened by Jan end, then I may agree with you.

(And by significant I don't just mean players in I also mean being in a strong position in the league)

Well lets hope we can bring a couple of faces in or I think we could be in big sh1t goals wise. I agree with the other poster about the loan market though - I don't particularly like it - we are improving other peoples players for them & not building our own team.

But at the same time loaning out our own players for the very same reason. It's kind of how football works these days.
