RoyalBlue genome Perhaps he was confident the take over deals in the offing would be completed in time? Maybe Anton had promised some funds but never came through with them (which wouldn't surprise me considering the last summer window). Just saying maybe Madejski isn't at fault here.
He is entirely at fault. No one forced him to open his big mouth and say that transfer funds would definitely be available to Adkins in the January transfer window. Dellor even got him to repeat it, thus providing him with an ideal opportunity to qualify his initial statement e.g. 'subject to the sale going through funds will be available' or 'Anton Zingarevech has said he will make funds available'. But no, the Ego decided to repeat his unqualified assurance of transfer funding, thus considerably raising fans' expectations only to fail, once again, to walk a single foot of the walk!
By the sound of things, initially Adkins also had his expectations raised (again) only to have them dashed.
But if he regularly misleads everyone about the level of funding available, why the oxf*rd do people still, window after window, allow their expectations to be raised by Madejski's talk of money being available.
"SJM, what a tightarse, always says there's money available but never backs it up with hard cash, the lying old soak"
SJM "There is money available to strengthen the squad"
"Ooohh, lets spunk £5m on a left back, attacking midfielder and another striker"
SJM "Signing Fred Bloggs from Havant & Waterlooville Accrington for £15,000 shows our determination to get into the Premier League"
"It's not fair, SJM made us believe we were signing Messi and Ronaldo"
Jeez, he's been spouting the same shit ever since we signed Andy Legg and Jason Bowen back in 1997. Why do people still fall for it?
