P!ssed Off Anotonio had a long throw.
i love a good long throw.

Anyway, have these players actually signed the contracts yet, or are they still just 'offered'?

I expect they're checking out their options and seeing what negotiations might be possible. Very few are just gonna sign the first thing they get offered straight away.

I hate long throws. They're almost exclusively shit. Just like short corners.

Short corners are shit yeah.
Long throws can be decent, we got a few goals in the youth cup from Fridj's long throws.

Long throws are universally rubbish. There is no merit in them at all and none of the goals we score from them count as far as I am concerned.

Long throws are purely how Stoke scored goals for years when Delap was playing. They can be very useful, cause a lot of confusion if you have a set routine.

It's so rare to not only find an actually good long throw taker (not just someone who can chuck it a long way - not the same thing in the slightest) and have spent enough time coaching the team how to benefit from it. Better to just learn how to play football better in the first place in almost all circumstances.

Having a deja vu feeling, wasn't there in depth analysis of long throw v short throw on a thread last summer?

From what I can remember from what I posted at the time, I think long throws are pretty much 'Meh!' unless you can find someone who has a technique like Delap. Most people just lob a high looping throw in to the box, which is hardly different from a cross of the same type, and is relatively easy for a defence to handle and clear away. What made Delap different was that he could deliver a throw fast and of a quite low trajectory, which meant pretty much that anybody who got on the end of it (goalkeeper punch or outfield player head) would only succeed usually in firing the ball upwards so it dropped back down into a melee in the penalty area.

Delaps long throw was pretty much equivalent to a corner, that's why it works so well.

It also helps if you have a Crouch type player and a a Walters to bully people. My university team exclusively did long throw ins as our CB could easily clear almost half the pitch. We had a 6 foot 4 guy up top and had a great routine. Long, drilled throws are a lot more effective than a high lob into the box which is a lot more easy for a keeper to catch.

Out of interest, what sport did your team play ?

Presumably not football.....

(Don't care if its mentioned elsewhere) Partridge "quite rightly" thrown away in the direction on Dagenham and Redbridge, he'll fit in just fine living around there

AthleticoSpizz facts...figures?

Robin Friday used to do all of that stuff

alledgedly

Robin Fiday could turn up to a match drunk and then score a hat-trick and be named the best player on the field. If any of our youth prospects can do that, let's get them into the team!

I'm sad he managed to find another club, though.

ZacNaloen Delaps long throw was pretty much equivalent to a corner, that's why it works so well.

I recall one opposition team manager told their players to make sure the ball went out for a corner, not a throw in as they knew how to defend against corners and not long throw ins to the same area..... If we had someone with a throw in which was as feared as Delap it would be a plus, however they need to be a good at the rest of their job.
