blueroyals Complete lack of creativity. Pre-season or not the problems from last season haven't been addressed.

So we're still shite then?

I hope not.

Luckily you can't read into pre season friendlies too much.

Not when back four when goal was conceded consisted of Obita Hyam Long Griffin.

I agree we shouldn't read too much into a pre-season friendly, but surely a Championship 'squad' should have sufficient quality to score against a league two side? I am a little worried by the lack of goals seen so far this pre-season...I much prefer to see us going into the new season on the back of a few games where the strikers have bagged a handful each and are confident.

I don't think we can rely on Nick Blackman to get the goals.

Don't worry we'll beat Espanyol 12:0!

Wonder if Al-Habsi had the blessing of Allah to throw that one in the net last night?

Friendlies mean NOTHING.

Analysing them is almost as ridiculous as paying to watch them, chill out.

First four wingers injured or unavailable. A striker and a midfielder on the wings. No wonder we weren't creating bucketloads.

Someone else has already pointed out that the back line had three players who aren't in first team contention, two of whom were out of position. We only have one of our first six centre backs available, and only three of our first ten, so the first team are using full backs at centre back, and the U21s are using three midfielders in defence at any time.

As much as I like Samuel and Hyam, they're not Hector and McCleary.

How close have we come to fielding what could be our league starting eleven in any of the friendliest ?
Break it down another level and how close have we come to our first choice defence /midfield/ attack...
I suspect we'll go onto the season with players still adjusting to a new line up, which isn't ideal.

Agreed Nameless, the season is only just round the corner and we've not seen a lot of what could be our first choice side. Admittedly that's been hampered with Hector and McLeary away on their Jamaica jolly, but it's still a bit of a concern that we've not seen McShane yet and the forwards don't seem to be playing much either.

I doubt the squad will really be complete until, at best, a few games into the season.

Totally agree, with Hector and McCleary away, Clarke still looking for three players to strengthen the squad, the team as Brian Mc said a team performance and shape can't be judged until 10 - 12 matches into a season. Let's see and enjoy what Saturday's last friendly match is like and the team selected.

Remember last season, Ryan Edwards was going to be the new star player, unfortunately that has not proved to be the case and he has left the club.

While I agree that you can't judge too much until you are 10-12 games into the season, by the same token once you are that far in it 's a little late to realise things aren't right. 25% of the season (and points ) are behind you.
There are some big pluses to be taken from preseason, and some still unanswered questions. Probably the same everywhere though.

You can hardly blame the back four for the goal, anyway.
