Would you take relegation to League 1 if it meant Reading reached the FA Cup Final?

We won the Simod Cup and got relegated in the same season. What a day at Wembley that was.
Cup final and relegation for me.

As above

Relegations/promotions come and go, FA Cup wins never happen here

League survival without doubt.

1 game for the likes of Rochdale, Chesterfield, Gillingham etc etc.... No thanks.

More so considering Swindon and Bristol City won't be in that division next season.

Not much point anyone getting too upset over a hypothetical question.
Like a few others have said I just can't see decent form in the cup accompanying worsening form in the league.

So far I'm a bit meh about our cup run. We'll need a few PL scalps in order to achieve proper glory, and not too many scalps left to be had.

If we were to fluke our way to the FA Cup Final through only beating a few average Chump teams, before getting spanked in the Final, then really I wouldn't rank that higher than our glorious consecutive runs to the Qtrs in 09-10 and 10-11.

Snowball If we get to Wembley in the FA Cup we will ALSO get to Wembley in the POs

and win it (the PO Final)

Winning both would be the worst of all possible options.

Why?

Green I'd agree with the e poster who said they'd take a semi final appearence.

Mr.Swainey
JIM Neither, look at PORTSMOUTH. heading to conference league :P :P :P

A club who still probably draws bigger crowds than us, home and away, and is one of the best away days on the calender.

Plus they ran amok through Newport the other week 8)

Big Foot
tidus_mi2 I'd love to see Reading in a cup final but relegation to League 1 would set us back so much, not to mention still having to put up with high earners on even less income, not that I think for a second we'll be relegated even if we somehow make it to the final.

We have one of the best youth setups in the country - out of adversity comes opportunity

Youth set up can't be that great if we have to drop a league for them to be good enough to play.

Without question.

I've followed Reading for 40 years now and my dream is to see us lift the F.A. Cup. (I've ruled out the 'European Cup'!) Even the League Cup would do. We must be one of the few teams in the top 3 divisions who have never even got to a final of a proper cup competition.

Watford, Derby, Middlesbrough, Leeds, Swindon, Oxford, Wimbledon, Huddersfield, Wigan, Hull City, Portsmouth, Leicester City, Sheffield Wed & Utd....

The list is long but excludes us.

No point in just surviving. It has to be about glory. As someone said, no one's going to say in 50 years "do you remember the year Reading didn't get relegated".

If you offered me FA Cup Final and having to match the team below's result to stay up in the last league game of the season I'd seriously consider taking that offer.

Feel bit guilty voting no, in the light of the enthusiastic comments. The FACup is much devalued these days. Plus many of you are dangerously optimistic about how relegation would affect the club.

Having seen us stumble three times at Wembley/ Cardiff, conceding 11 goals, my dream outcome is to win the playoffs.

And win the Cup the next year.

FA Cup final for me. I've dreamt of seeing us in the final for that cup since I was a boy and we might even win it which in modern times would be a great achievement for a club like ours. Also nobody could ever sing "You've never won fuck all" if we won it.

I'm getting tingles just imagining seeing the teams come out of the tunnel to a packed Wembley with one half covered in blue and white. The thought of all the jester hats, spaz clappers and painted faces are making me wet for an FA cup final.

League one would be good and I think we'd come back up quite soon as well. But only if we won, if we lost I would probably hang myself from the North stand goal with a pair of Sasima Sweetcorn's tights.

I voted "no", but I'd accept this situation. I would risk relegation if it meant a good chance of winning the cup, but I wouldn't accept definite relegation in order to get a good chance of winning the cup.

That's probably totally irrational but I don't care.

GH Royal Definitely, stuff of dreams and some cracking grounds in league one yet to be ticked off for me.

Also, an FA cup final appearance would add to our illustrious history

Yep, pretty much summed it up for me.

You would think (hope) we'd have a great chance of automatic promotion next season if that was the case. Teams similar to us that have come up from League One have often continued to move upwards rather than back down and been promoted again before too long, sometimes even in successive seasons. Norwich, Swansea and Hull to name 3 examples.

Big Foot Those of you saying "no" - are you fackin serious?

Why yes????? So we get to a final and lose, and get relegated....what's the point apart from a little money.
Seriously people would rather we got relegated??? Madness......

This exactly.

If we don't arrest our slide this season, it's likely to go on for a long time. We could forget a quick return to the Championship, let alone the top tier.

Also suspect our largely anonymous owners wouldn't hang around for long either.

Man Friday As someone said, no one's going to say in 50 years "do you remember the year Reading didn't get relegated".

Someone should quote this to Tim Dellor who was banging on about preferring staying int he championship to winning a trophy. Sometimes I wonder if he is actually a fan.

I can sort of understand this from a financial standpoint if you're in the prem, but in the championship where we get £5 and a set of disk cloths for staying up it just doesn't make any sense.

Personally, I would quite enjoy a year of low key Saturday 3pm football that we have a chance of winning and being able to watch some of it from terraces.

I really can't see any disadvantages TBH.

Oh - I'm not talking about reaching a final and losing. We have to be guaranteed winning.

I really couldn't stand the thought of another wembley disappointment followed by relegation. That would be a kick in the teeth and a boot int he balls.

Other than lower quality of football, but I doubt you'll care much when you're smashed off your bonce in Fleetwood.
