RG30 Guthrie surely has to be one of one's Clarke made reference to. Dependant on who you believe was told he was free to leave the club in January before eventually getting shipped off to Fulham on deadline day.

I thought Guthrie had already gone when Clarke said there were problems he couldn't resolve - and anyway, it can't be that, because he has resolved it and shipped him out!

I'm guessing it is to do with the ownership and possibly their plans for the club?

Someone said on the BFTG Arsenal thread that we regained the Reading FC Identity

(well for the day at least)

I think that is true, team, individuals, fans, club. The sense of US v them was
very strong, the passion (on and off the pitch), everything just made me buzz.

This was what was so great about the 2005-06 team, what always gelt good
when we scoured the lower leagues for hungry promising players. This
was why we loved McDermott and somehow won another Championship.

What follows is NOT a criticism of the players named, but scrabbling round looking for Prem-ready players, and then the idiocies of the Russians, and now (slightly) the one Thai import mean we have salted the family with too many players who really don't think RFC-blue.

Drenthe, Ferdinand, Guthrie, Carrico, Stuart Taylor, Halford, Pog, Williams, Murray, Bridge, none of them FELT LIKE Reading players (I'm sure there are more, this is off the top of my head). Even Mackie in that TV interview didn't talk as though he was likely to stay at RFC.

I think the heart went from RFC, we saw it for two hours this weekend, and we need to get it back, even if that means good players (for example Williams) going if they don't create the right dressing-room atmosphere.

(PS Not saying Williams IS a culprit.)

As a club we rarely do well when buying in "top talent", but we seem to do better finding rough diamonds and creating a great team ethos.

I want Gunnarsons, Doyles, Ingimarrsons, Hunt & SHunts, Longs, Murtys...

Is there a specific reason people think its a "disruptive player" causing the problem, or is that just speculation?

It could be poor player integration - something Clarke can address with pre-season team bonding?

Maybe it's not a disruptive player but something/someone else disruptive at the club? - The club policies perhaps, I imagine some players out of contract will want decisions made on their future.

[quote="SCIAG"]I think the accusation wrt. Samuel is that he isn't training hard enough. He's a popular member of the squad, and has been out on loan for most of Clarke's tenure anyway. Doubt he's the one being talked about.

To be fair, there was a bigger squad of fans available for selection at Wembley..... although I don't recall No 13 Reading Fans being announced, so maybe Clarke has dropped us for being disruptive?

Plus the number injuries we had under Adkins may suggest that the players were being over trained.

New manager, new start

Williams is everything a RFC player should be
gives his all every game. and an under the radar gamble, not fancied by anyone else, but with the qualities we needed to improve the team.

Clarke has played him almost every single time hes fit, so the idea that it could be him disrupting anything is daft

Maybe its the ones he's getting into rows with who are the disruptive ones. Seen him arguing with Pearce and McLeary but nobody else that I can think of. Both times he walked off the pitch chatting with both of them and seemed to be holding no grudges. Personally I like to see a player having a go at others if they don't pull their weight. There is obviously a limit though and i don't think Williams has overstept the mark.

But Clarke said it wasn't something he couldn't fix or words to that effect - so I'd be inclined to think it's nothing to do with our players.....

Reminds me if when I went to the "Meet the Manager" thingo and Adkins said he had the players on running machines running until they dropped. I asked if that had anything to do with why there were so many injuries. He said "no".

Early on he said he didn't quite know what the problem was, more recently he has said he knows what needs doing.
It can only be player related and I suspect it is more to do with the squad being so poorly balanced, meaning he is very restricted in terms of selection. FFP also limited what we could do in January.
Clark will sort things in the summer, I do think we'll see very positive moves and Schard's will renew his ST.....

If we can sort out this mess then we have a real good chance of getting out if this league.

There are so many teams that have background and financial issues that we need to take advantage. I know it wasn't so long ago that we were in a financial mess but it seems like things are looking up now and with some shrewd business this window, i think that next year we could challenge.

We just need a couple of signings in the right areas and I think we'll do well.

Get rid of the deadwood such as Travner, Guthrie, Kelly etc. Try and find buyers for a couple more and then go from there.

I think Samuel can make an impact next season if Clarke gives him a chance.
