Fcuk me, any Palace fan (or indeed any other fan of a Championship club) must be reading this and thinking they've logged on to the West Ham forum! Yes we won the league, yes we are now a Prem side, but that doesn't mean we'll walk a friendly against a Championship side and moreover it certainly doesn't mean that we won't be tested.

Some of you need bringing back down to earth. Agreed they aren't a big draw like say Celtic, or Ajax or whoever, but Palace will be a great test for our lads so lets not be so disrespectful to the level of the opposition.

P.s To anyone who still thinks Palace aren't enough of a test would you care to remind me how we got on in both fixtures last season?

Rant over :wink:

On another note absolutely buzzing for AFC Wombles! Never been and certainly a team I've got alot of time for given their past.

RG30 Here's a thought. Pre-season clashes with the Olympics which has rammed up prices everywhere. No foreign teams as far as I am aware are having pre-season tours in the UK (happy to be proved wrong). Furthermore I suspect most football clubs based in London have been asked not to schedule matches in the capital because of the Olympics which could be a reason why we are hosting Palace. Ultimately it doesn't matter if we win all our games or lose all our games as the only result that matters is that on the opening weekend of the season.

What this man said.

It's a good thing nobody is saying that then, isn't it?

One of the good things about friendlies - and let's face it, there aren't many - is the chance to visit places you wouldn't normally go or play teams at home that are different from the norm.

A home game v Palace doesn't offer that, and will probably draw the lowest ever crowd for a friendly at the Madejski.

Could have been worse though. It could have been Watford.

[quote="General B"][quote="winchester_royal"]Away to Bournemouth on the 4th

Maxim (co-owner of Bournemouth) and Anton have had a lunch and decide to arrange the friendly. Next season plans is to arrange pre-season “Russian” cup among Reading, Chelsea, Bournemouth and potentially Arsenal. Harts could be involved as well.
