Tommy Youlden's Ears We are on a roll. We win in streaks. And it always happens this time of year (well, did last year).

And being optimistic > being pessimistic.

Wigan 1:2 Reading

On a roll? ONE league win is a roll?

We've now won and I dearly, dearly hope we win again, and maybe Wigan have a weakened side, but I'm amazed by the sudden optimism on this board.

I've backed a Ding win, so expect a heavy defeat, the bubble has burst

Don't always agree with Snowball but feel some of the comments here unjustified - he is right that Wigan are favourites (hardly surprising considering they're the better team & are at home).

Wigan's 3-4-3 is most effective against a 4-3-3, not sure quite how it'll match up against our 4-4-2 (or even if Brian would change it specifically to counteract it - obv doubtful). I imagine we'll get completely bossed possession wise, given Wigan are a decent passing side at home and we are, well, us. Not sure whether that'll convert into goals, though. Having McArthur & Watson out is a blow - Wigan will have to play their 4th choice central midfielder. However 7 first teamers seems like an exaggeration; Alcaraz, Crusat & Miyaichi have barely featured, Di Santo could yet pull through.

I'll plump for 2-1 Wigan (Kone, Boyce; Le Fondre). We'll get something from Villa.

Our record at Wigan is quite poor and I suspect Wigan will just edge it 1-0.

Oh FFS Snowsie. Read between the lines won't you. It's a bit of blind optimism. Frankly, it's not even blind. I'm always optimistic - it's football, and frankly Mr Shankly was wrong. It's much less important than just about anything else on the planet. I'm loving what looks like being a season long battle against the drop. It's fun. Bring it on 'Arry.

Then again, if you are so desperate to be grounded and rational, unbeaten in four puts us fifth in the Football 365 "Current sequences" table (http://stats.football365.com/dom/ENG/PR/curseq.html). So, on that basis, yeah we're on a snowballingly wonderful roll. Only four teams rolling better in the self proclaimed best league in the world makes us fifth rollingest team in the known universe. Wigan is never easy. They are the banana skin we have often slipped on and the party poopers that have pooped on us on a regular basis. However, we have got to play well and if we are to survive this season MUST get a result! We have 6 points from the last 4 games.. I thought 9 would be acceptable from the run of 6. Wigan and villa to come. Step it up boys!

Wigan are suffering an injury "crisis" apparently. De Santo will be assessed prior to the game and could be out. They've lost their last two. Could be a good time to play them.

3-1 Reading.

Tommy if a predictions thread is just plucking optimistic scores out of the air
or spouting optimistic nonsense purely for the sake of it, it's seems pretty dumb.

As I've said on the four six-pointer thread, I think this game could almost turn a season

On the back of first, a run of draws and just that 1-0 reverse at Anfield, THEN a 1-0 win
(chuffed to bits but Everton blew that game and should have thrashed us when we were sh!t)

we are now in a position where a win could easily send us on a very good run

but a defeat and we could fall apart.

We were played off the park v Swansea, played off the park at home to Spurs, totally
outplayed for much of the Liverpool game, garbage in the first half versus Everton,
and though we considered ourselves unlucky at Chelsea, remember that they ripped us to shreds
for the first quarter of the game and it looked ominous.

We are now playing our championship 11 with a 21 year old CB, a better LB, and maybe a slightly better RB,
and Jay Tabb (who I love to bits) who couldn't get a regular place last season, one league lower than this.

We have every reason to still be seriously worried

No. I mean we are very likely to get relegated because we lack quality.

We may be 1-0 up but we have been dire and given away a lot of chances to a poor side

Ian Royal 2-2 - Morro gives us the lead. Wigan take control and batter us. We come back in the last 10 and Hunt with a late equaliser.

You're on course...
