I think the poster was referring to the season when Brian took charge when we were hovering around the Bolton three at Xmas only to end up just narrowly missing out on a playoff place.

He wasn't.

Westwood52 I seem to recall sitting in Waitrose (Tilehurst) Car Park-listening to Dim Teller @ an away game castigating Brian McDermot & Readings chances of promotion; the season we were promoted-I think this was after Xmas (that season)-can anyone recall how far back we were from the front runners that season ?

Contrary to popular belief, it was not just when Jason Roberts joined in January that we produced title winning form. After the first 6 games of the season, when we had just 4 points, we topped the form tables throughout the next 40 games. On Boxing Day we were 6ht, and come New Years Day we were 5th. After 18 games we were on 24 points, and in 13th, 3 points off 6th.

My unreliable memory tells me we had just fallen out of the play off spaces when the TSI announcement was made.

There was a lot of talk on here of McD looking like a man ready to walk away after a post match interview where he pleaded that all he wanted was to "not to continually have to sell his best player(s)".

Next thing you know Kebe signs a new contract, Roberts arrives and all of a sudden it's all sunshine and roses.

Quite possibly the most memorable post-match interview I've ever heard. I was shocked by how open McD was that day, and also remember him saying something like "you can't keep on doing what you're doing". He sounded like he'd been bottling it up for ages and couldn't wait for the opportunity to let it out.

Yes we lost 1-0 at home to Hull due to appalling officials who, shall we say, had a very unique take of the offside rule.

Para Handy Christ, Floyd you're becoming more tedious every year. If you don't want to support Reading anymore then I'm not sure why you don't just fuck off tbh. Oh, you have, you just need to keep telling us about it....

Didn't mention once in my post anything regarding attendance at games :| So I'll take your apology as implied.

Most others have taken the thread as an opportunity to discuss our prospects, you've come on and given it a load of attitude because you're sooooooooo alternative and edgy of course :!: Once again a regular on this site replying to the poster rather than the points raised.....you clearly have little or no developed sense of irony as you slate the intelligence of others in your post.

'Most others', Pretend-Floyd, know this thread is just the usual 'opportunity' as you of cousre soooooooooooooooooooooooooo elequently put it, to push your usual crap across. Try being a regular at the games this season as opposed to a regular on a footy website.

No thanks. Being far quicker on the uptake that you goons, I binned that off as I knew that the football on display would be no good. Friends of mine who are still regulars confirm those worst fears for me and needless to say I take their opinions over those of the likes of yourself and Semtex1871.

The loyalty to the team you claim to support knows no bounds Pretend-Floyd. The rest of us goons will no doubt continue to be slower on the uptake than yourself and stick with it...........

You've made the right decision floyd. The only time you've enjoyed yoursel in the last 10 years is when we romped the league and were 8th in the PL.

Stop torturing yourself and leave it behind.

Your like a jilted girlfriend with the same friend circle who bores everyone to tears with how badly youve been treated, when everyones thinking 'just oxf*rd off, we can see why he dumped you'.

Are we goons or just loyal supporters who stick with the club through thick & thin?
It's the hard times that make the good ones special.
The 106 season will have been appreciated far more by those who have been through some of the rubbish times, than those who jumped aboard the glory bus and bought a half-season ticket at Christmas to ensure they got one for the Premiership.

Thank God no-one in the bottom 9 won at the weekend. If we lose at Millwall we're really in the thick of it, make no mistake.

Interested to see that Charlton, as I predicted, are tumbling down the table and have just hired their latest foreign manager. Let us hope he is as clueless as Riga and Peeters.

Currently, I fancy Charlton to go down with Millwall and Blackpool. I will be amazed if Wigan go down, I rate their strongest XI as superior to ours in terms of quality.

Leeds' meltdown continues with Cellino losing his appeal.

Reading will be fine, but next season maybe not so; not with even bigger cuts coming our way and a lot of OOC players this summer.

I believe FFP rules change next season with clubs being allowed to lose more
