I guess time will tell and therefore have declined to vote thus far... take the point about an improved defence, but I still find it slightly concerning that neither keeper has yet to make a significant save :?

I can't think of a Federici mistake off the top of my head, I don't think any were high profile.

Younger Federici in goal, FA Cup vs Man Utd 3-0 down in around 15 mins, all three goals keeper errors.

Wait, was all that rhetorical?

As I see it, both goalkeepers have been error-prone. This is where Dave Beasant needs to earn his corm to justify being brought in to replace Sal Bibbo.

Bibbo was ousted on personality not because he was a good coach or not.

Both keepers are "able and adequate". No doubt they are both shocked and stunned with the lack of their match-time activity......blame our brilliant defence.

Some of the goals conceded this season have been rather good....

Regardless,

Even Marcus, Feds, McCarthorse, Deathy etc made many mistakes.........but maybe they had far more opportunities to atone for them.................unlike the current encumbants have yet had........

again blame our brilliant defence.

Al always had good games against us for Wigwam, yet 007s' qualities still remain undercover.

Far, far too early to wield that popularist HNA axe

Yes, yes they will. Bond is the new Simon Sheppard and Al Whoopsie might as well be wearing clown shoes.

RoyalBlue
Hoop Blah
RoyalBlue How many points do they have to gift away and fail to save for us before they make a huge difference to our season? To date Bond has given some away and has yet to be acknowledged as saving any for us.

As for Al-Habsi - on everything I've seen from him whilst he has been with us and played for our opponents, he will definitely cost us more points than he saves.

Bond has cost us points at Wednesday, via one mistake. If you want to be picky about it Sa has cost us more through the missed penalty and his red card that was the key factor in the loss to Derby.

Where else are you placing the blame for our loss of points on Bond?

Despite Clarke's denial (and no manager is going to publically criticise a young keeper) IMO, and that of many others, he could and should have stopped that Derby effort. What points has he gained us through saves? Sa is in credit with the goals he has scored/assisted.

The percentage of shots on target saved is pretty damning too. Either all of our opponents have had red hot finishers in their team or Bond is currently not performing to the level required of a good keeper in a successful team.

Bond could have saved the Derby effort yes, in the same way as any shot is potentially saveable, but it wasn't an error and it wasn't a shot he should have saved.

As for Sa being in credit and Bond not, well Sa scoring the goals he has could be argued as just doing the minimum in the same way as Bond has. Missing penalties and needlessly letting his side down by getting sent off as he did is much more of an error than Bond not saving Ince's effort so I've no idea how you can work that out to be honest. To criticise a keeper because he hasn't has had to make a load of saves is, quite frankly, plain daft.

Clarke has made some very good comments on the keepers this week. I'd say he's called it about right, that they're doing alright but it isn't easy being a keeper when you're not getting a lot of action and that there is obviously room for improvement.

Asking a question like 'what points has he gained us through saves' is just daft.
There is much, much more to being a keeper than pulling off the flash saves that people think are 'match winners'. Being in the right place and the right time to make a simple save is every bit a skill as throwing yourself across the goal to tip a shot over when perhaps better anticipation might have meant the dive wasn't necessary.
For me the jury is out on Bond for the simple reason he's not had a whole lot to do. He's made one obvious error, and let in very few goals. The % of shots on target is unreliable as a measure because we're giving away so few chances that the sample size is too small. If we get to the end of the season and he's conceded 20 goals from 30 chances those will be damn fine figures !

maffff I hope Myhill is available come January

Don't think 43% as 'nearly 50%' sis too disingenuous given the context. Small sample though.

He isn't going to be mate. Foster looks like out for the season now. I can't understand how that HITC story got such a grip. If Foster was healthy then yeah I could see that it could be him as he's mates with both Steve Clarke and Kevin Keen. When he was at Stoke, Pulis sold fairly quickly. Myhill was never rated much by Clarke, in fact a successful run in the side was curtailed by bringing Foster back early from injury. Which cost us points. It's almost as if it was written for Foster then when he got injured the "Journalist" at HiTC Sharpee'd out Foster's name and put in Myhill's who we were already in talks with over a new deal :D . Surprised if you don't sign some one like Hennessey at Christmas though Bond's young for a goalie It's like us having JacK Rose as #2

Bond fills me with little confidence, but with regards to Al-Habsi I reckon there is a legitimate claim to instead have no keeper and play an extra man in defence.

Truly hopeless.

He didn't cover himself in glory in the away game at Chelsea either - Gary Cahill shot from well outside the box

Must admit that Bond looks very disappointing from the highlights I have seen, spilling more than a waiter with Parkinsons. That said, highlights by their very nature will accentuate the very best and very worst of a player so you hardly get to see the bread-and-butter of 90 minutes to best judge a goalkeeper on his merits if you're unable/unwilling to attend matches. What I do have is a number of friends whose opinions on football I generally value and they have not given me good reports on Bond.

At least he is a young goalkeeper. Not quite sure what Al Habsi's excuse is. I always rated him from the highlights of Wigan games I saw (see related caveat above) but perhaps in some ways it is easy to look good as a goalkeeper in a side expected to lose/concede 2 or 3 goals most weeks. Our most immediate experience of Al Habsi prior to joining us was in games against us....and the stand out was him almost gifting us a point at the DW Stadium when he carried a deflected shot from (IIRC) HRK over his own line :|

Just watched Federici's premier league debut for Bournemouth.

Hopefully that will remind those nostalgic for former keepers to be careful what you wish for

Federici was more than good enough for us at this level. That was proven over a number of years.
