I'm naturally very excited about this but just can't see it happening. What was Sharp's reason for turning down Leicester? Surely they offered him a bucket load of cash, and that seems to be all we've got to tempt him as well, maybe the promise of being week in week out striker (i doubt Leicester guaranteed him this) and being higher up the league than Leicester can appeal to him? Who knows

That'll do.

And now for a creative midfielder please.

Was very surprised that he turned Leicester down, however with the impending investor on the horizon maybe talks had taken place between us, Doncaster and the players representatives to just hang slack for a little longer and we would be interested in taking him. With the size and expectations of the investment we must appear to be a much better longer term bet than the foxes.

Anyone else think £3m is a bit steep? Spending that sort of dough worries me slightly.

Really can't see this happening. If he didn't want to go to Leiecester, he certainly isn't going to want to come here.

I hope I'm wrong ofcourse.

I'd rather come here than Leicester though. They are in a right mess at the moment. I'd be more worried about Fulham getting him than Leicester.

The prices we now pay will be an issue due to the press coverage of what we now have in financial terms, although Hammond has a very good rep for getting the best deals, so I expect a lot of the "undisclosed fee" headlines, to help protect us from the the "loads of money, lets cash in" merchants. In reality Sharps recent goalscoring recored of 40 goals in 81 matches sort of warrents the £3m price tag.

We certainly can't plead poverty any more!!

Funny how we moan about not spending money & then moan about spending it. (Well me anyway).
Not used to this!

I don't think this is as silly as it sounds....
Has a £1.85 million release clause so not stupid money.
Has said he wants to leave Doncaster... seemed odds on to sign for leicester and turned them down. It does seem unlikely this was due to his wage demands...

So why turn them down.... Perhaps he was sold a better project..... instead of signing for leicester and be replaced in 6 months with an even more expensive signing / be relegated to the bench, added to the fact leicester seems unlikely to go up this year and if they do will almost certainly replace the whole squad be that this or next year....

how about.... become the center point of a club who over the next 18 months plans to build a young ambitious squad, not go crazy with money and sign anyone who is available, but mould a team and add players when/ if we need them... you will be the main striker and hopefully a premier league striker in 6 / 18 months?

Seems a no brainer.... and maybe after the tragic event he went though last year he understands life is more tham getting the biggest pay cheque and will have a better time at reading than leicester?

Would be very happy with this - although it would spell the end of Noel Hunt at the club one would presume; we'd have so many strikers on our books something will have to give. Sadly with all this speculation I can't see a decent performance against BC on Saturday, the players' minds must be all over the place right now. What message does talk of signing ANOTHER striker give to the likes of Church and Manset? I can't see these "hot-prospects" staying around long if we start spending big.

Sadly, we've hyped the likes of Church up so much now he won't settle for a loan move as he'll think he's good enough for the first team. No doubt we'll sign a creative midfielder over the next few days, so I'm guessing we'll return to the 4-3-3 of the Gylfi days; two out of Noel, Church and Alfie will be reserve players for the rest of the season, I just don't think these two models of buying quality AND developing youngsters are compatible.

Thought he said he would only leave for the right club. We might be a better fit for him.

Dean Saunders comments about Sharp at the weekend.

“He’s indicated to me that he is not going to Leicester - but there’s always the chance somebody else might come knocking.

“But not a lot of clubs have millions of pounds to be throwing around at this time of year.”

For some reason the thought of Billy Sharp coming doesn't excite me. Nothing to do with his ability, but his move To Sheffied Utd was quite a failure and just have a bad feeling he won't settle. No disrespect to Doncaster, but maybe he likes being a big fish in a small pond and he seems to have done better at the smaller clubs. If he signs, I hope to be wrong.
