Slow handclap and added motivational booing.

Gordons Cumming It has nothing to do with CA, MS or anyone.

This need for public applause or silence has become an epidemic.

Yes showing respect has become too mainstream!

Got a lot of time for Chris. Was a decent left back, always did a solid job.

The strength to actually try and carry on playing was outstanding and should be respected. He put in a few decent shifts at midfield as well.

Third minute or when it says '3' on the clock?

Just clap for two mins to make sure.

This seemed like a lovely way to show the guy he was appreciated bY both sets of fans, but it all becomes a bit farcical seeing as he's not actually going to be there.

I know it's his kids first birthday but really? If he's not that bothered about it then why on earth is everybody else? Football fans, huh?!

Still gutted I missed that.

Don't understand the slippery slope arguments. This is the first time I can think of that we've done this in the 15+ years I've been going to matches. It's for a top player, who showed absolutely remarkable determination and committment to fight an extremely nasty condition and still manage to put in some very good performances, playing out of position, in the second tier of professional football in England whilst suffering from it. This is in a season where, I believe he's said, that he was suffering from it so badly that he struggled to get up and walk places sometimes. Before finally having to decide to retire at 28.

That is damn worthy of recognition. All the more so because he'd never ask for or expect it.

Bit of a shame the 3rd minute tribute actually ended being a 4th minute tribute, but there you go.

No it doesn't, he'll know about it and that's enough, the guy is modest and unassuming and your daughters 1st birthday should rightly take precedent.

That's a bit like the argument as to when the turn of the century was. However, by my reckoning we started applauding at 3m 0s and continued on 3m 1s, 3m 2s, 3m 3s, etc. so the 3 was present throughout!

Far more important is that, thanks to Chris Armstrong, we have finally shown that the repeated claims by the club that they weren't allowed to have the scoreboard clock count up during games due to FA rules was the load of guff some of us always contended. Or will the club now claim they got special dispensation from the FA just for this occasion?!

Either way, clock counting up from now on please.

This didn't have anything to do with an outpouring of grief or emotion. It was a nice gesture to acknowledge the guy's commitment to the clubs and his professionalism. He has an illness that will be with him for life and which ended his career prematurely - this is a simple way for a large number of fans to express that those involved with the club are not forgotten the moment their contracts end. Too many clubs have a habit of proclaiming their prestigious history and fail to support the people who helped them build it.
