LUX no doubt Steve will revert to one up front at Fulham (not complaining, I trust him).

Given what happened at Blackburn, not to mention how well the team defended from the front today, I wil be amazed if we don't start 4-4-2 at the Cottage.

Well done Reading indeed.
Thought SSC had used a tactic in the first half I dont recall seeing at the Madstad, the hoof! `seemed to work though, maybe Allardyce had done his homework and was baffled by the "different" approach.
10/10 for everyone!

Don't recall the first goal or most of our other chances being created by 'hoofball'!

Coppell looks a lot happier in his post-match interview for the BBC...

Well played lads.

I cant remember the last time we pissed all over a team like we did today. Thoroughly deserved win, should have been by more.

Special mention to Doyle for beng a team player and playing out of position for the cause.

Sonko for being the legend that he is, made a huge difference today.

And Kitson for being the most improved player this season. I didnt think he was a prem player after last season.

Lets push on and do better than we did last year.

COME ON URZ!

(Lets all go and get pissed)

9th top scorers in the division - and that after scoring 3 in our first 6 games. (ie we have 11 in our last 5 premiership games).

Good performance today against a very low key Newcastle. This was a performance that could of come from last season and the biggest difference was that we defended effectively from the front - Kitson, Doyle, Lita and Hunt worked very hard to shut down the full backs and central defenders and generally encourage Newcastle to punt long (and they didn't need much encouragement). Gunnar's produced his best performance of the season and someone somewhere has placed a rocket up his arse because he was everywhere putting his foot in and closing down - all the things that were absent from his game to date. Sonko inspired the back line and if Lita had had some composure in front of goal that would have been an easier win than it was.

The template is there - compete for the ball, tackle and close down within a. balanced 442 on the right with Doyle - it is going to be a very big game next week at Fulham, and like WR said I expect the same line up at the Cottage and maybe a competitive away performance for a change.

A terrific all round performance today. If Lita had been a little more match fit and confident we'd have won at a canter.Thought Kitson was inspired and Doyle looked great on the right/forward.Sonko looked back to his best and at last we looked on the button.

Ashfordroyal 10/10 for everyone!

Even Lita? Hmmm?

But yeah cracking game. Good to see us back playing how we should good free flowing football. Doyle definite option for wide right. Think Long should start next week, Lita just missed too many chances for me. Glad we shut those arrogant Geordie 'we are such a big club' nobs up. G'arn Urz!

Coppell said in his post match interview that Doyler was a reluctant winger, so I agree he should be lauded for playing the position well and giving us a real option on the right as well as providing some great crosses.

I am still amazed how poor Newcastle were, they were in the top half of the table but played like total nupties looking for a 0-0 draw. When we scored they had no plan B.

Good to have you back Reading, we've missed you. Forget the nonsense about hoofball - there was varitey to our play. Kitson, you are magnifico. Don't applaud just the goal, his all-round play was top notch. If Owen and Barton are England players, Kitson should be a regular. Trouble is he's playing for Liddle 'ol Reading. Coppell - please keep this side and formation. Doyle is a right-winger.

Why did you doubt that we'd ever see that Reading back again?

You gotta have faith...

From Coppell and Doyle's interviews it was very clear that Doyle doesn't want to play there (remember away at Chelsea last year he played on the left-wing) and Coppell knows that he doesn't want to play there.
What must Doyle have thought when he put that first chance on a plate for Lita?
"I would have scored that with my eyes shut"?

It was terrific to see us back to playing like last season with everyone working like mad-we have to play like this,it's our style.

Just a few comments about today.
Lita-please don't let us hear that he should play ahead of either Kitson or Doyle unless either of those hits a abominable run of form.

Bryn-very good today but...a midfield trio of Barton, Emre and Butt must be the slowest that we face all season and when other sides play at his pace Bryn is more than a match.

Hunt-how brainless is he at times?.
Giving away a free-kick when Milner was going nowhere was so stupid and unnecessary and you just knew it would lead to a goal.

Duberry and Sonko had such easy games against a team that despite having ball-players in midfield chose to hit so many balls in the air which were meat and drink to our central two.

It would have been a travesty if Lita's misses and Hunt's stupidity had meant us only getting a draw because we were way ahead of them today however a word of caution,Newcastle lost at Derby.
Hopefully today will be the springboard towards better things and well done Reading it's great to see everybody putting their all into a really important game and result.

I'm sure Doyle is also shrewd enough to realise that if he had been in the centre there would never have been any crosses from the right wing in the first place.

What the game proved to me was that Lita is not a natural finisher.

The long punt upfield from Hahnemann was pretty integral!

He misses far more than he scores.

He isn't instinctly as a good goalscorer as he may think.

Good game, thought it was played in the right manner by both teams and a game which could have gone either way, but we deserved it on chances.

Thought the side looked comfortable playing 4-4-2, the understanding was their between Harps & Bryn who looked solid and it was our best performance of the season. It was also like watching us last season, the tempo was with the players, we defended well and had a good variety.

Some good individual displays, particulay from Doyle who was playing in a role he's not so familiar with. Kitson was a handful and IMHO he is my 1st choice striker with 1 out of the other 3. He has the variety/cleverness which makes it very difficult to defend against and had a good game capped off by a wondeful strike.

Another 90 mins for Sonko, with games he'll get fitter and stronger and the relationship between Doobs & himself will get better.

Overall, pleased with the result/performance and Fulham away next Saturday is an ideal opportunity to get the 1st away win of the season.
