I always suspected that Plymouth were a pub team.

T-Rex
LUX T Rex, last time you posted on here I invited you to post the list of teams, apart from Reading obviously, Plymouth were bigger than in this Division.

You didn't reply.

Have another go.

We're at least as big as Barnsley, Doncaster, Blackpool, Burnley, Preston, and Watford in terms of how far we could go "naturally".

Then there are little clubs who've been bankrolled to their current status like you, QPR, Cardiff, but in reality there is little between us.

Then there are clubs on the crest of a wave like Bristol City, Swansea who're enjoying a temporary high and will be back down when the novelty wears off. We averaged higher than both in our first season despite not having a sniff of the playoffs, you'll notice.

Then there are clubs who are small-time but recently enjoyed a spell of success in the Premiership like Southampton, Coventry, Charlton, Palace. All of whom's attendances are slipping away quite drastically (as yours will if you dont get re-promoted soon).

Then there are clubs who're naturally bigger than us and probably always will be unless we get sustained success, Norwich, Wolves, Ipswich, Brum, the Sheffields.

great effort, thanks for taking the time.

I get the impression:

a. you actually believe that.

b. you are really angry no-one takes Plymouth seriously.

I accept that you may have the measure of Doncaster.

When were Plymouth a top flight club?

Just for the record, Swansea and Bristol City have both been top flight clubs; as you are probably a spotty teenager with some spare time as you have to stay in because of your ASBO, you may not know that.

Enjoy your Cup Final on Saturday.

Do you seriously consider the likes of QPR and Cardiff to be small clubs??? Cardiff have soooo much more potential than Plymouth, and have regularly attracted higher attendances, and have historically been generally in a higher division. QPR also have a decent history, particularly in more recent times.

Bristol City and Swansea - riding the crest of a wave? Under good management and Chairmanship, building sides that are capable of competing at the top end of the Championship. Swansea's case is still open, Bristol City, under the management of Gary Johnson, will get promoted in the next 3 or 4 years under him. Both clubs have similar potential than Plymouth in my opinion, but are better run and managed. Average attendances - where are your "fans" now in your relegation battle? Distinct part-time support that sounds like

And are you seriously comparing Plymouth to the likes of:

Southampton - 27 sustained years in the top flight, a total of 35 top flight seasons post-war (35 more than Argyle) an FA Cup (one more than Argyle), a UEFA Cup appearance (albeit brief), a highest finish of 2nd in the 1st Division (have Argyle ever been there?), average gate 16k (a full 5k higher than Argyle), and currently under fans protest at how the club is run explaining their gates (but still 5k more than Argyle).

Coventry - 34 sustained years in the top flight (34 more than Argyle), an FA Cup (one more than Argyle), a Fairs Cup appearance (do you know what the Fairs Cup is?), a highest finish of 6th in the First Division, an average gate of 17.5k (a full 6.5k more than Argyle).

Charlton - Several periods of top flight football, an FA Cup, a highest attendance of well in excess of 70k, an average attandance of 21k (that's 21,000 fans turning out for a team destined for relegation, a full 10k more than Argyle - nearly DOUBLE the attandance!).

Palace - several sustained periods of top flight football, FA Cup runners up, a highest finish of 3rd (under the guidance of our current manager), an average attandance of 14k (3k more than Argyle).

The fact of the matter is that despite the occasional flurry at the top end of what is now the Championship, Plymouth have consistently been a pretty average mid-table old Div 2/3 side with a highest place finish of 4th in the old Div 2 twice. They have never been top flight, they have never been to an FA Cup final, they have never played in front of a crowd greater than 43.5k, even at Wembley (although I suspect that they had a large majority at their play-off final against Darlington). They are merely another club in the football league with ideas above their station, with deluded fans who think they are bigger than they actually are. The size of a club is laid down on the pitch. A decent side in a decent league attracts fans through the turnstiles, therefore leading to more money for better players leading to higher league positions, and so forth. Plymouth struggle to attract big name players, which leads them to scrimp and scrounge for distinctly average players, which leads to mediocre season after mediocre season. For the dictionary definition of "average", read Plymouth Argyle.

I like Plymouth, one of the teams I like to see doing well,
mainly because of the great sh@g with a lovely Pilgrim Devon Lass.
She travelled all the way up for an afternoon in Reading with me then back to Plymouth same day, coz the boys down there weren't up to it!

And a fan of Sturrock from his playing days!

...for the three points tomorrow.

I know you're looking to be bankrolled to promotion again, but I'm afraid we'll probably beat you (looking at recent form), and comfortably at that.

Not bad for a club which is forced to operate within it's natural means.

Sir John had better get another huge wedge out as sooner we get back to the Premier League of Trolling the better.

Plymouth trolling is not even up to average Championship standard and I fear T-Boner might be back having to ply his trolling trade back in the lower divisions soon.

and if you lose tomorrow presumably you will keep to your side of the bargain as usual and not be heard of again for another 12 months?
