Fooks sake TBM. I expect better of you. We will not be involved in a relegation battle. However we all know we won't go up via the play-offs so its top 2 or bust...so we need to start motoring. Soton, Derby and Brighton are all doing really well....are any of them that good? I doubt it. Still all to play for.

we will be fine, but it's a mid-table season this season. hopefully we can ship some dead wood out over the next 12 months and next season have a better, settled team to push on with.
the likes of griffin, harte and gunnarsson wont be around next season. hopefully add federici and simon church to that as well.

Yeah, let's pin all our hopes on a 20 year old goalkeeper

   No worries as yet.

All I would say is that we have made 3 good signings this week; I'd like to think most STGs are satisfied with the level of reinvestment seen in the squad, with the players coming in looking the sort who could "hit the ground running".

So now, if we do have a bad season, can we please lay off JM and NH and recognize that you need the playing staff to produce the goods?

or a replacement. either or. federici is a showman with his shot stopping but his all round goalkeeping is frightening.

Do you really think that our problems are due to Federici? Really?

We'll be fine, still top half I reckon - defeats at Hull & Pompey are no real cause for concern. The Barnsley result more so but those sort of results happen in this division. Losing 3 games in a row is never fun but it always looks worse when they are at the start of the season. A similar run of results in say Jan wouldn't have got too may worried.

You've got to be kidding. Get in £12m. Spend £3m. Do me a favour. Are you SJM in disguise?

2 players out, 4 in for the season (including Khumalo). Wages to consider. Then consider accuracy of figures with fees; they're all undisclosed. Add our £4m yearly deficit, spent on players' wages. It makes sound sense to me.

We also had 3 obvious areas to strengthen; LB, CB and ST. Done, with players you would expect to handle this level. Who would you have liked to come into these positions instead?

I'm interested to know from the STGs, who exactly would you have brought in? How much exactly would you be prepared to pay e.g. if we got into a bidding war? What percentage certainty that we would gain promotion? (the only logical way to get an adequate return on the investment)...

...spend some fvcking money and all that.

All I know is if we continue playing like this we will be in that battle. Not saying I expect this poor form to continue, but based on what has been seen so far...............

I hope Alf is the real deal because we are doing zero up front. We don't have an attacking midfield player, our fullbacks don't seem to have the pace to make overlapping runs and the service from the wingers has been almost non-existent. If something doesn't change I see a lot of 0-0, 1-0, and 0-1 results in our future...

The funny thing is that now we actually could have a decent team and I'm just hoping Brian is gonna find that out sooner rather than later. Obv everyone has different opinions of who should be in the team and where but I think after the signings this week we will be stronger. I'm happy with the business we've done but this should have been sorted before the season started.

My team would be:

McCarthy

Cummings
Mills
Pearce
Gorkss

Kebe
Robson-Kanu
Legs
Karacan

Manset
Le Fondre

I think up to speed that would be a very good side- Manset and Le Fondre are obv gona take time to adjust to this level but have to be better prospects than Hunt and Robson-Kanu up top. From the 3 games Ive seen, Robson-Kanu is looking better than McAnuff and should be on that left wing. Cummings and Mills (from tuesday's cameo) look adequate and would enable McCarthy to throw the ball out to them so we can attack. At the moment Fedders just hoofs it and you've got to ask the question as to whether he's been told to do so by the coaches because throwing the ball out to slow full-backs is going to cause you problems

I think that would be a decent outfit but one more likely to challenge in a season or so

I said at the start of the season that this year we will be hovering around 8th place towards the end of the campaign, just long enough to get a little excited about possibly grabbing the 6th place spot and looking at other teams results...but ultimately we will finish 10th on the last day of the season about 7-10 points off the pace, still think that will be the case.

Incredibly despite sitting 20th our next 3 games are against teams below us (the bottom 3!) & 2 at home, nothing less than 6 points I think from these will do.

Agreed the signings make us stronger, and hopefully more threatening offensively. But with Mills and Cummings on the bench, when they are even named to the squad, which Cummings wasn't today, what is the point? Brian seems loyal to Griff and Harte and no matter the result they are in the starting 11 the following game. I think Gorkss will shore up the defense enough that we will be leaking less goals so now the emphasis should be on getting bodies forward. And someone has to step up and put the ball in the net. I like your proposed line-up except for now I would keep McAnuff part of the starting 11 and have HRK coming off the bench to give us a second half spark. But all in all I like, and agree with, the line-up you'd like to see...

Cheers! And I don't see it as much weaker than last season- in fact up to speed I think it's better: Mills replaced by a better and calmer cb, Long and Hunt replaced with 2 strikers with promise who would compliment each other well.

I'm a big fan of McAnuff but I think Robson-Kanu is our most improved player, in the games I've seen he's been the only outlet from which a chance is going to come from, and thus would start him
