Paolo Hurtado

Bet you all forgot we had this guy.

Think he'll get a shot next season? Or will he be off?

I'd quite like to see him given a go for a few games and see how he is. I don't think he's played that much football though, even out on loan. Who'd take him?

He should definitely get the opportunity to prove himself in pre-season, we are now very short on wingers so the opportunity is there.

Yes, agree he should get a chance. Find it amazing how random the decision making seems to be, that determines who gets a run of games to prove themselves, and who doesn't.

Was there really any rhyme or reason why players like Fernandez or Hurtado hardly got a sniff last season, whereas (say) Piazon kept getting lots of chances ? If there was, it was hard to spot.

Also, is he really a winger, or more of a wide attacker like Blackman, or even a No. 10. Saw so little of him, I don't even know.

Training and the competition for the particular role the player had will have both played massive parts.

Fernandez didn't get a kick because he covers the same role and position as Norwood who was an ever present and one of our top five performers for sure.

Hurtado struggled with the language from what we've heard and didn't look anything special in his very small cameo time.

It's easy to say players weren't given a chance because we didn't see them play in the first team much... but that's what training is for. They've got to earn their place on the pitch there. And if they're not doing it in training, they're not going to get a chance.

Hurtado isnt the first foreinger to play here ! use a translator, learn the language but don't make excuses ... That cannot be the reason he isn't playing ... we don't know how he trains so we cannot speculate. Results without him have been awful so can't blame him or Alex for the mess ..

We were told he wasn't picking up the language well. Quite hard to use a translator on the pitch. If you read what I said, you'll see I wasn't blaming Alex for anything, and the fact we don't know what happens in training is entirely the point, so we shouldn't be second guessing the manager's decisions on who should play because we don't see 60% of what they do.

I'd give the guy a chance, but I'm guessing he will be gone in the summer.

Not going to improve his language skills overseas. No doubt another hefty wage. Won't see him again in a Reading shirt.

I remember when we signed him that it seemed to similar to the carico transfer and that he'd make a handful of appearances from the bench before heading off to Spain/Portugal.

I've half wondered if there was ever any intention to play him, or if it's just part of a buy and sell on side business to keep up the bank balance, with agents using clubs like us to get into Europe easier.

With Stacey and Fosu back with some games under their belt I would want to see them playing ahead of Hurtado.
We're probably a left winger short in the squad.

If we're paying him loads of money, we should give him a chance and see if we can get a bit of a return on our investment.

I guess it's a case of weighing up whether or not he's good enough to be allowed more time to settle in and learn the language, or just cut our losses and get rid of him.

I would expect Brian to be having a heart to heart with the player in the next couple of weeks and from that to make a decision whether he (Brian) could work a "Kebe" with him.

My expectation though is for him to disappear back to South America for next to nothing, after all he failed to "perform" in Portugal as well so would presume he really is struggling outside of that continent.
