Oh look, a semi-interesting thread quickly turns into one bashing the club and the management, well I never.

The fact that you are sufficiently aware of those players' abilities to want them to play today is proof that we do play players that come through the ranks. Having said that, I'd like to see Pearcey as first choice central defender myself.

come on you know what i mean. The closest we have come to producing a home grown player that plays regularly in the last 10-15 years is Nathan Tyson, and we sold him. RFC have made next to no use of the academy since it was introduced, which in my view is a disgrace. i cant think of 1 player since Lovell Taylor and Williams from the youth set up that has made any kind of impact, or become a Reading Legend, and that is either because our academy is sh1t, or the current management set up is not giving them a chance.

I don't know. Is he actually any good? Or you want us to sign every 14 year old who scores some goals and is related to an ex-player?

Both of these boys are talented they are both going into Chelsea next week for a trial game as well

Gilkes is certainly as fast as is father if not somwhat on the small side.

Irrespective of background if a boy has potential he should be given a chance

I find it sad that they are not given a chance at their local club

I also agree with another poster re not enough Academy players getting a chance to progress into the Reserves / First team

All U18 year old scholars have been released this season with none been offered a pro contract !!!!!!

Abdulia Baggie is the next Up and coming Reading boy still only 16 and now get a regular reserve team spot !!

If they arent good enough they arent good enough, end of story

The academy now has the draw to attract players that it might have lost to other teams and that means the local talent has to be that bit better to still get in. In the long run that should mean we see more players come through, but it also means less real local lads will get the chance

We also see more youngsters come in at 16 and 17 from abroad and then the local boys will be up against an even bigger pool of talent

Sure your club will get one through the system one day!!!
