To be fair, he's one of the few who will nail his colours to the mast. Just looks like a complete tosspot when it doesn't work out.

In the same way you look like a tosspot when you take a random guess at a question on the ITBox and get it wrong?

RwC - loves to gloat at other people when something they've said doesn't come through. What, exactly, have you stuck your neck out and predicted this season?

The worst for me was when it was my money and somebody behind me shouted at me that Charles Dickens wrote Mein Kampf, as opposed to Great Expectations. I pressed it on the screen out of impulse. I really did look like a complete tosspot.

As for Floyd, I was thinking what he was earlier, I just didn't let everybody know. Cowardly or sensible? Right now, sensible.

Good post RL despite me writing:

"To be fair, he's one of the few who will nail his colours to the mast."

Anyway....

I didn't predict we would finish midtable, I didn't predict there would be a fire sale in January and I didn't bet with anyone we wouldn't make the playoffs.

Floyd's football knowledge and reasonableness make him the one of, if not the most, consistent and accurate of commentators on these boards. Personally, on this occasion, I am happy to see him proved wrong, but I was just as convinced that it would all be over by 7.15, as were, (I am sure), the vast majority of nobbers

No way, what some people forget is that it's a 46 (maybe longer) game season, not 5, 14, 37 or 45

As I said before fair play to him for sticking his neck out but it looks foolish when it goes tits up - adding a level of grumpyness into his prognostications only makes it better (or worse, depending on which way you look at it).

He does rate Brum though. I don't particularly. They fell apart tonight and I would like to think they'll crumble under the pressure next Sunday. I'm sure Doyle and Kitson are relishing the thought of being marked by Jaidi!

Yes, and I've never said that I didn't respect his views and share some of his concerns. We have disagreed often robustly and if we do gain automatic promotion or via the playoffs I'll not be queueing up to say that he was wrong. My main beef with the like of Schards and Floyd is that they are always so certain that they are right. I'm not even sure what I'm going to have for breakfast tomorrow let alone who is going to get promoted.

I don't care how it happens but if we do go up this year it will a bigger achievemnet than with the 106 point team. Reading are my team and I want them to do well. If I wanted to watch top class football all the time I would support Manchester United.

Royal Lady I think you will find that most people nailed their colours to the mast at the beggining of the season. Some rightly or wrongly, and fair play to those who put their hands up when they were wrong.

Personally I stated we would definately be in the play offs, more than likely top two and thought we would actually win it. So I am part wrong and part right. The most important thing is actually what the club does and not what people tink they might do.

I would much rather predict doom and gloom and we go up than be up beat and we end up midtable mediocrity.

Lets all just stop this bickering like 4 year olds and defending the old man or other half like little school kids and hope that Reading FC do what needs to be done and Colin does us a favour.

There's a world of difference between sticking your neck out to make a prediction (e.g. I think Brum will be promoted) and sneering at other people for contemplating the possibilities that might take us up. "Give it up - it's all over. Why do you people do it to yourself?" is the height of overbearing arrogance and you should expect to get ridiculed when your smugness gets wafted back into your face by events.
