He seems to be loving playing for Southampton. I'm not sure he will be so good outside of League 1, but I am willing to be proven wrong.

According to Pards, Antonio wasn't exactly pulling up trees on the build up to the Dulux, or whatever it's called, paint final. But the boy was certainly up for it on Sunday and scored a sweet goal.

Begs the questions:

Does he want to stay with So'ton, as happens with loanees, and would Maccy D be happy for him to continue his progression down the road?

Alternatively is Pards getting the best out of him? Given Brian's track record, since taking over, and depending on what happens in terms of departures at the end of the season we may just have another option - literally waiting in the wings (or on the wing depending on how you look at it).

Raw, I think is the expression.

I saw him early season for them, ironically in the first round of that competition where the Gulls very nearly (and should have) put them out. He was subbed at half time. Quick, direct but honest to God had zero end product. Hunt style shanks into the stands, a shot/cross that went out for a throw.

I've seen him pop up with a few goals though since then and they seem to use him as bit part. Impact player sort of thing. Might be ok in a few years.

Hmmm would Pards be playing mind games??? My view is see if they want him at end of the season and take Barnard off them in exchange.

Raw is exactly the word I'd use to describe him at the moment. He has got potential, that is obvious, but from what I've seen he's far from the complete player. I think his contract is up in the summer (?) so will be interesting to see what we do. I don't think he's championship material just yet (or, at least, top half championship material, which is where we'll be next year!). IMO though Brian is the kind of coach who could help him realise his potential.

I think Antonio's biggest problem is that HRK, Bignall, Bell Baggie are all pretty similar sorts of players. He has to show that he is better than them.

Certainly see no harm in giving him another 2 years, but is he gonna play for us? I think he might want the clean break.

Have many friends who had seen him at Tooting and Mitcham before Coppell brought him and they thought he was a half decent player that scored hatfuls of goals. Very much a confidence player and slightly hit and miss ala Jimmy Kebe.

Didnt reckon he would be more tthan the average champ player which is not really what we want or need this season or next.

Because we really need another midfielder what with Cisse, Bozanic, Matejovsky, HRK, Henry and Davies not getting a look in...

He looked OK v Pompey, lively and saw a lot of the ball.

Judging a player on 2 huge cup ties is hardly representative.

Speaking to a couple of Saints ST holders - they reckon they would do well to sign him at the end of the season. They say he's very quick & strong, capable of scoring a few goals and has a good long throw on him.

They agree that sometimes the end product isn't there tho.

After that wembley apprearance the other day I was listening to BBC Solent on the Mon morning and the highlights of the match Antonio was mentioned in every goal

According to today's EPo, he's out of contract at the end of the season - presumably we would still be entitled to a transfer fee if he left as he's under 23?

I thought that only applied to players whom the club had taken through their own academy?

Only if we offer him a new contract. If we offer him nothing then he goes for nothing.

I thought the same as Big Foot, that it would only kick in if he was a player we brought through ourselves.

I'd a little surprised if it wasn't but it's not something I've ever paid much attention to so you're probably right.
