Far Canal

Vision Remarkable Vision would have sufficed.

I honestly never ever thought i would see this subject brought up again. How lovely.

There is perhaps a tiny grain of truth (relevance) in this legend. In the early days of the FA Cup when there was a clash of colours the older club (founded longest) got to play in their first choice. How the legend has come to be assoc with RFC I've no idea beyond our relatively early 1871 foundation/

It is believed to originate from the season that RFC chose an away strip of blue and yellow hoops. When we played an away fixture at Brighton, who play in blue and white stripes, RFC naturally had to use their away strip. The referee was uimpressed at the prospect of two teams playing in blue and ordered a change.
As RFC did not have a third strip, Brighton kindly offered to play in their away strip and an urban myth was born.

I thought we had a third "change strip" kit that season which was yellow and red hoops.

chandog I was on a tour of wembley stadium yesterday and found out that because Reading represent Royal Berkshire we are the only club in the country that can wear their home colours (Royal Blue) in every game they play. This is an FA law and has been since the club was founded.

That poses the question of why do we need an away kit when we can wear the home kit for every match?

PS. feel free to say if this thread is on the wrong board

It's better than that. Because we were known as the Biscuitmen any fan who contacts Huntley and Palmers gets a free box of hobnob's sent to them as we helped to promote their product.

Only introduced after the Brighton game, and another at Wigan where we had to wear their away kit.

However, my memory insists that the legend was going strong well before that day at the Goldstone.

I discovered this on a trip to the USA recently; because we have a Millenium Hotel attached to the ground, if you go to ANY Millenium hotel in the World, you can get the Presidential Suite for the local equivilent of £3.99 - but ONLY if you show the receptionist your member card when booking the room.

Also, wearing the Simod Cup winning replica shirt gets you a free drink in The Bugle on the first Thursday in March.

Aren't we a great club??

If you say "Gullible" five times really quickly, it sounds like Reading.
