Alan Partridge Elland Road is also being used i believe.

Thank God RFC's grond isn't being used. All we need the town filled with more egg chasing freaks. WORST SPORT EVER.

Jeez, I give up.

Rugby Union isn't the worst sport ever. Have you ever watched Dressage?

Harpers So Solid Crew No olympic stadium either, odd now they are talking of leaving it full size after 2012.

Are they? It was only mentioned last week again that L.Orient are supposed to be leading the queue to make the stadium their home with a reduced capacity.

If they do keep it, and they probably should, they should build a fecking roof!

And make it unusable for proper rugby and football ?

You mean like just about every stadium in Holland, and the Millennium Stadium too?

Every stadium in Holland? Ajax Arena, Arnhem, where else?

Other than that though, I agree. I can't see how having a retractable roof makes a ground unusable. A bit dark and dingy perhaps, but hardly unusable.

Ok I admit it, I exagerated a touch  but as you say, it is not a valid case to argue that a roof detracts from a stadium's usefulness for football or rugby

And of course my comment was tongue in cheek....

But the roof at the Millenium Stadium is a mixed blessing. Football and rugby are sports meant to be played out doors and the weather is a part of those games. Sealing them inside an artifical environment changes them.

And of course the problems witht he pitch at the Millenum Stadium are at least partly due to the roof, which means it has often been unfit for any kind of sport.

Fundamentally football and rugby should not be played indoors. The number of games of either type tyhat get called off at the top level is tiny these days so a roof is un necessary. It makes (some) sense at Wimbledon due to timing issues but not really for many other sports.

IMHO !

I'm pretty sure my girlfriend would rather watch dressage than Rugby Union, just saying...
