Minutes applause for Sir Bobby

by W&E Royal » 10 Aug 2009 15:55

Not sure if this has been mentioned elsewhere but I was under the impression that all league clubs were having a minutes applause for SBR this weekend. I may have blacked out from the excitement of a new season but i do not remember there being one, i remember one during the Chelsea game but not the Forest game.

Any ideas?

You have answered your question within your question. We have already commemorated the life of Sir Bobby. We had no reason to do it again.

We talked about it briefly on the "Back From Forest Game" thread on the team board.

Why do you want to know about it?

Because I heard before this weekends games that ALL league and Blue Square clubs were having minute applauses for SBR, of clubs that i have looked up, they all had them. Last week at friendly games most clubs had them and still the same clubs had another this week. Did we forget?

I'd have thought we just took the common sense view.

He was a nice man, a decent manager but we'd marked his passing and there really was no need to stretch it out another week.

These things became over done a long time ago and whilst I would not in the slightest begrudge Sir Bobby the recognition he deserves I also would have found it embarrassing if it had been repeated.

It's quite simple imho.

MInute's silence/applause should be reserved for:

ex-players
dignitaries of the club (chairmen, vice-presidents etc)
selected "long servants" of the club
England managers
England captains

I would add in:

The death of a monarch

The death of fans if in the line of supporting their club e.g. Charlie Matthews of the West Stand killed in the Ufton Nerfet rail crash on the way home from the game.

A local tradgedy/disaster that affects a large number of fans

A footballing tradgedy e.g. Hillsborough

Rememberance Day
