The 'Noel Hunt' Award

by St. Brynjar » 12 Jun 2013 01:11

Tribute for fantastic community work

Reading Football Club's Community Department has honoured Noel Hunt for all of his great work in the Community - by creating a new award in his name.

The striker, who comes to the end of a five year spell at Madejski Stadium, has been an excellent servant both on and off the pitch for Reading and has been a passionate supporter of the club's Community work.

The annual 'Noel Hunt' award will recognise the outstanding achievement in the local community by either a group or an individual.

It is seen as a fitting tribute to Noel for his fantastic work within the community and the local area - and to someone who was keen to make a difference off the field as well as on it.

Nice touch by the club imo. Rewarding a model professional who was a big part of this club in the last 5 years.

Rare moment of well-pitched PR from the Club. I am in support of this.

I had a chat with Dave Evans (Club's Community Trust Manager) at a dinner just as the news of Noel's departure was breaking. He really couldn't have spoken any more highly of Noel and his work in the community. Always first to volunteer and prepared to do anything that was asked of him, regardless of the amount of time and commitment that might be required. A fantastic ambassador for the club and for professional football. Just goes to show that there are some highly paid footballers out there who are selfless rather than selfish.

According to Dave, Stephen Hunt also did a lot of work with the Community Trust and made sure that Noel followed his lead in that respect. Apparently he brought Noel along to an event and said 'This is what I do and you are going to do it too'.

love hunty, massive respect for what he did for us those 5 years. to me having this reward named after him is a touch of class from the club. its really nice to see that they still respect him this highly even though he has moved on from us.

Does he come back to present it every year?

Noel Hunt ‏@boyhunt 20h
@ReadingFC your to kind guys and I will sorely miss you all!! All the best

Congratulations to Noel, however, it was sad to see he spoiled his time at the club with a missed apostrophe and a spelling mistake in his thank you tweet.

Seems also that some on this board should give more credit to Stephen for his work in this area while at the club and also encouraging Noel in the tradition

Total respect to them both.

Be great if that national press picked up on this a little with a general piece on all the great work that professional players do put into local communities up and down the country - but then I don't suppose that is the sort of news they want.

Sadly Noel didn't get as many years with us as Parky but I would dare to suggest that he was every bit (if not more) as committed to Reading, both on and off the pitch, as the great Parkinson.

Yes - an absolute credit to his parents and a fantastic role model. He seems to have had the same effect on every club he's been to - I can't find anyone who can say a bad word about the man. He will be sorely missed.
