Stretcher Buggy

by Forbury Lion » 16 Mar 2015 11:42

Nobody wants to see an injured player stretchered off, but if it happens it was always entertaining to watch the little golf buggy drive onto the pitch avoiding players and then driving a few yards to drop them off at the tunnel before trying to get back to base during play without running over photographers and ball boys/girls....... so why don't we use it anymore? Is it an FA ruling, a money saving measure or does it have a flat battery?

It wasn't battery powered. Did you not see the long cord trailing behind it ?
Plus it was only ever use at the North end of the ground because the socket was in the NE corner

Probably because it churns up the pitch - not that anyone would notice the difference this season - and takes so long when generally a couple of people are quicker

It sits in disrepair in the corner of the northstand, a sad reminder of the days when RFC were an ambitious progressive football club.
Probably end up on Ebay.

Ah yes, we had to wait for the RAC buggy to come out and tow it away... okay, so that bit didn't happen.

A lasting memory involving the buggy is Michael Duberry flattening a tiny Jamie Ward of Sheffield United. They did well to peel him off the grass let alone help him to play football again.
