Schards#2 [I'm struggling with this one.Do you believe the club still intend the expansion to go ahead one day or not?

My case is proven. I think that throughout this discussion my line has been consistently clear - the expansion plans are there to be used when and if the business case supports that happening and that is what the club is now saying out loud. If you took the trouble to read and understand what was actually being said you might be less aimlessly vitriolic.

It matters not whether I think the expansion will go ahead or not, as I don't make the decisions any more than you do (unless you are one the 3 executive board members. I have, largely, tried to keep out of the opinion business and stuck to the facts. I am also not going to be as bold as you in stating that the plan is totally dead in the water nor that it is still wholly alive; the fact is that it is currently in abeyance, no more no less (not my opinion - solid fact). Should there be a change in the demand, or a new owner with a new agenda, or some other factor that makes it attractive (in business terms) to build then who knows what will happen.

So what you appear to saying is that you don't have an opinion, but your case in proven.

Good for you!

And that causes your tiny brain problems because .....?

Let me explain in words that you can understand.

I have kept to the facts, that proves my case.

Hopefully that wasn't too complex.

Could you just run over what your case actually is then as, earlier, you were saying you didn't have an opinion.

This is the bit i'm struggling with.

You really don't get this stuff do you?
( You may note that I have not said - my opinion is proven!)
My case is that there are facts, and that I have stated them. No more no less. End of. If that is too complex then my opinion that you are a mental dwarf is proven too!

I would have to concede that there are facts. Well spotted.

People's opinions on these facts tend to be a little more interesting than the acknowledgement of their existance.

Credit where credit's due, having the same pointless exchange on two different threads for such a long period requires a high level of commitment.

Birmingham City claim to be a big club and often talk up the idea of a much bigger stadium, but did you see all those empty blue seats yesterday?
Yet here we are all but selling out our allocation week in week out even whilst we're battling it out at the wrong of the table.
We know the potential is there, why wait to start building work, get on with it!
30,000 would more than do. We don't require 38,000 yet but 30,000 is not a risk, it makes sense.
Yeah ok you can argue the club is doing the odd offer for cheaper tickets and so on, but all clubs do that and we'll continue that with a capacity increase I'm sure, that's just sensible marketing.
Waiting 12 months makes no sense at all. That's if Madejski has intentions to actually go through with the expansion.
The expansion is key to this football clubs continuous growth. We need it!

Biggest crowd of the season yesterday. We are consistently full or nearly full at every game. We need to expand the stadium (at least to 30,000). If we can have such good crowds during the season we're having, what will happen next season if we do better?

If we don't expand then we will stay just as we are - a club in the lower reaches of the Prem unable to think about attracting the sort of players that will give us a chance of stepping up a level.

No it wasn't. The figure of 24,300 and something was incorrect. The Madejski Stadium doesn't hold that amount and Blackburn had just over a half full away end.

Unless the mad man has been cooking the books for some time, that crowd was just over 23,000, through no fault of the Reading support though.

I sort of thought that when I saw the gaps in the away end during the Sopcast. How does the club benefit from overstating it's crowds?

Still a good crowd though, and doesn't go against the argument for expansion.

Looks like a mistake on the official site- if you scroll to the bottom of the mini report it says: Attendance: 23,374.

Especially when the Blackburn's (terrible support for a one time Premier League winners), Wigan's, Birmingham's and Portsmouth's often get less.

I recall back in 1999(?) Fulham giving it the big sarcastic "wooooooooooo!!!!!!" when the crowd of just over 19,000 was announced, despite that being higher than the capacity at Craven Cottage at the time. Their fans were a right bunch of arrogant dicks for a few years, and I hope fans in the championship remind them that they used to sing "we'll never play you again" every week.

Mind you, that song has never been more cringeworthy than when a few brainless Reading lads starting singing it at Bournemouth a few years ago. Not just because it's such a tosser's song, but because we had to play the return match against Bournemouth the following month.
