If we'd been playing an attarcive team yesterday with an expected attendance of 10k or more it would have been all stands open and allocated seating.

That was the cup one that went to penelties and Steven Hunt missed the opener and was allowed to retake.
There sure as hell was not many there during that night - but - we were allowed to sit in out seats.
Dagenham was away - you may mean Luton (att 7,498 if you mean last season), or more likely Darlington in the first year in the PL. The attendance that match was over 10k (10,353, to be precise.) See my post which you quoted.
