West Stand Man and you can offset the cost against your ST if you ask)

Just out of interest, are you sure about that?

PurpleTurtle I do have a life thanks, and also have a degree in Business & Marketing and 15 years experience in that field with successful blue chip companies.
At no time during any of my experience have I written to my customers suggesting that my competitor's "product" is better than my own. This is how I interpret his email, no more, no less.

Interesting interpretation, andmaybe he has the better marketing ideas ?

Surely the product being marketed is Premiership football ? He's trying to sell tickets to a game involving 2 teams and only a naive marketing person would deliberatley exclude half of the 'product', and possibly the more marketable half of the product, when trying to make a sale.

Seems to me he has taken the more realistic approach.

You may have had a point if he'd suggested someone might like to call Showcase Cinemas and buy a film ticket (which WOULD be pushing a competitor).

What is it weird ?
They are both part of the marketing team, Richard has been there for years and Kevin joined in the summer.

No, not really. Just wondering why I got the same email from a different person. It's not important really.

If I get a third I might just buy...

gh7901 I got the email as well and while I appreciate that he is just trying to do his job, my first thought was how unprofessional it was to mass mail all member card holders (?) and from his personal email address at that.

I too was very surprised that he chose to use his personal email rather than a generic marketing@reading.fc.co.uk type address. Naive or refreshingly open/honest? Either way, I hope he's got a good spam filter!

Fairplay to him, though, for the manner in which he has responded to the the emails that got sent back to him.

gh7901 I still think this idea was fairly flawed though, sending these emails to STH's isnt going to get you much interest I wouldnt imagine. Advertising to people who are not STH's and perhaps members who have not been to game in a long time would be a better idea.

But surely the STHs are quite likely to be the best people to go and sell these seats for the club?

So telling them about this, and giving them the information which might attract non-RFC fans to this, can only be a good move.

If that really was the intent, then surely it would be better to address the email to those STHs and word its content along those lines. Instead it appears a scattergun approach has been adopted that is about as accurate and effective as the average US missile!

Agreed. I also think it's "a nuclear war".

All I can confirm is that when I asked a couple of years ago, they said that they would allow me the value of that match off my season ticket.

Ah, the old 'I have a degree in this subject so I am an expert' game.

If you were seriously a competent marketing expert you'd have spotted that nothing in this approach from the club pushed you in the direction of their competitor (commercially). The tickets are still being sold by the Reading ticket office, and the receipts come to this club. It is quite clearly a sensible marketing ploy, to encourage people to pay to go to the Madejski - and that is what they are paid to do.

So, my original comment stands, thank god you aren't marketing for Reading.

Behindu Some people may like to ask themselves what they have done to get themselves on the 'prawn sandwich' list !!!

The extensive club database records every bit of info about you and targets these emails precisely, so what have you done to meet the criteria of being someone who would pay all that extra money for a premacth meal and a free programme !!

Kevin Hall I sent an email out to ALL our members and season ticket holders.

Behindu spot on again. To think he considers himself in the know with the club aswell
