My work didn't. I walked off to the toilet and stood silent for a minute, just gathered my thoughts. And this is the civil service! How crap is that!

To be fair to them, they have tried a silence throughout the building by announcing it through the PA. But all that does is involve everyone standing in front of their desk feeling awkward (doubly so if the phone rings and they're not sure whether to answer it or not).

They do book out the conference room and show the Cenotaph service on the tv, and that's where I've gone for the past few years. Not sure how well it was publicised this year though.

Oh ok. Not well enough I guess, I didn't see anything of it. At least they do something then.

reply received almost immediately after sending to the correct address: As follows:

Thank you for your email and we are sorry you are disappointed there was no minute’s silence.
Football League policy is that minutes of silence are not held unless specifically requested by clubs, and our policy is only to hold a period of silence if a game falls on 11th November. We did hold a collection for the Poppy Appeal at the stadium on Saturday and the squad also marked Remembrance Day with a period of silence at the training ground at 11am on 11th November. As always we will review our policies and will be happy to introduce a minute of silence in future years if it is desired by the majority of supporters

I dont see what the fuss is about to be honest, it was the 8th of November, not the 9th. On the 9th I had a minutes silence of my own at 11 o clock while watching the memorial service on TV. Not sure what the point of doing it the day before just because it is a football match is.

Figure of speech. I was straining at the time.

Change of subject...

I for one am hoping we perform a minutes silence this saturday for the young lad who died this week, and not a minuites applause as a few have suggested.

Silence is far more respectful.

This will be a very touching minutes silence too. Very very heart felt.

100% agree with you there
i have never understood the minutes applause in any remembrance situation

i thought the idea was to have a minute to reflect on the individuals life in a respectful manner
imo whilst clapping very few people will actually be thinking about the reason for why they are doing the applause

In some cases it's held where a minutes silence may be disrespected as it drowns out the jeering.

Which wouldn't be expected on Saturday. I'm sure Southampton would be very honourable for at least 60 seconds. Then we can whoop their arse for Stewart.

Not at all.I am the compete opposite of your little presumption. However considering that NHunt normally sticks to his acrobatics after netting, changing it on the week of remembrance Sunday to a machine gun spray was a BIT inappropriate.

Then again you didn't make the connection. "goal scored me happy"

Having a crowd chant someone's name can be very moving though, particularly if that person brought great joy to a crowd for years on end.In this case a minutes silence is more appropriate.

Personally I fell it ought to be whatever Stewart's parents want and feel is most appropriate.

Its a coincidence. You think Nunt deliberatly shot his team mates to take the piss out of people who gave their life for their country?
And the reason i only just replied is i had only just read it...
