Stewarding today

by Svlad Cjelli » 13 Nov 2010 21:17

Did anyone notice a change in the stewarding methods today?

A couple of peopel have mentioned that the stewards' approcah to trying to get people to sit down was different, and there was even a tango "response squad" floating about the Lower West concourse

Anyone knwo what was going on?

I noticed that there was no steward sat at the front between Y23-Y24 for a while at the beginning of the game and also no steward stood in the stair well for the same amount of time if that helps at all?

I notice the grey haired steward who a lot on here moaned about last season re-appeared in Y25 yesterday after being on bus stop duty for most of this season. This man is a pain the you know what and even started an arguement with a lady in Y25 yesterday.

The stewards presence seen but not heard from earlier in the season has now been replaced by more attitude. I have counted at least 10 ejected from Y26/edge of Y25 over the past two games for no apparent reason.

Not so much a case of getting the message. They have to be seen to be asking supporters to sit down. I was watching them on a couple of occasions against Cardiff in Y26 and when they regrouped at the bottom of the steps they just shrugged their shoulders at each other. Be grateful they're largely letting the fans be. It's what we want after all.

Lots of very mouthy Norwich fans in one of the Hospitality boxes. Not the first time this has happened. Saw a steward telling one of them to calm down.

Got mixed feelings about this one. No reason why away fans shouldn't be in the hospitality boxes but when you're going to stand up and milk it, for about 5 minutes when you score, then you should expect abuse. Think the stewards should have cottoned on to this one earlier.

It's ok Para - Schards and I will be redressing the balance at the away game at Norwich - and I'll defo be giving it large if we score.

He'll be back

I need to have a word with him about a certain public house on the edge of town centre.

Wrong side of the edge of the town centre. try nearer the station opposite the apex plaza.

Interesting patter ndeveloping if you ask me:- large away following turn up in town, majority stand, Reading fans largely unhindered by the stewarding presence and are also standing unhindered. Very next game with a smaller and less boisterous away following RFC stewards are clearly given directives to utilise a much heavier handed and far less lenient approach. Last two cases in point - Newcastle Utd at home followed by Peterborough Utd, and now Cardiff City followed by Norwich City.

One wonders what will happen the day Coventry City come to town...
