Juve

Reading FC are in talks with Juventus about a deal which could lead to some of the top young talent from the Italian giants turning out at Madejski Stadium.

Discussions are ongoing between the clubs and although they are not yet at an advanced stage, Royals are hopeful they will come to a successful conclusion.

Club owner Anton Zingarevich confirmed that having the Juventus connection will be a huge coup for Reading.

He said: “It’s good to get established with a club like that. They are looking for partner clubs and we’re in discussions right now. But there’s nothing to confirm yet, we are just in discussions.”

When pushed further on the possible link and how it would compare to the one Reading currently have with Turkish side Galatasaray, Zingarevich said: “It’s more in terms of player development.

“They have 100 players on the books which they look to develop and so they are looking to get partnerships with clubs who can help them do that.”

Juventus are enjoying a successful period in their history, having won the Serie A title for the past two seasons.

Just two years ago they finished the entire campaign unbeaten and have recently moved into a new stadium. With the huge success they are enjoying on the pitch, they are looking to expand globally, especially with such a big player pool available to them.

However, there is no suggestion that Reading are about to follow the example of Watford, who took advantage of a loophole in regulations last season by making 14 loan signings from abroad.

Most were from Udinese, the Serie A club also belonging to Watford’s owners, the Pozzo family.

Reading’s director of football Nick Hammond has recently returned from a trip to Turin where he met with Juventus officials in a bid to progress talks.

If the partnership goes ahead, Royals would be one of a few select clubs around Europe working with the Italian club.

Zingarevich added: “It’s not like an exclusive arrangement where it’s only going to be us. We will be a part of the group that they are building their partnerships with.”

The link-up would be the latest in a succession of partnerships secured by Reading. They already have one with Galatasaray and last month announced they had joined up with Formula One racing team Marussia.

The Royals logo is now displayed on the Marussia cars, while the Formula One team’s name will be on the back of Reading’s shirts this season and the club announced a deal with The Legends Alliance, who will be the club’s official shorts sponsors.
