No Movers Week?

by Blue Blood » 05 Jun 2007 10:40

Apparently the club will not have a Movers Week to enable you to move your season ticket seat.

Seems bad particularly with the proposed stadium expansion and also potemtially better seats maybe coming up with people not renewing going to those who get their first season ticket this year.

Surely this is not that hard to administer?

As has been mentioned before, the club will have no "official" movers week, but I reckon if you get down to the TO a couple of days before the start of the "New Applications" period, they might be able to sort something out for you...

There will be no new seats available as the East stand extension will not be ready August 11th 2007. We'll be lucky if its ready August 11th 2008!So don't worry people getting their first season ticket this season will not be getting the pick of the new seats.

As around 18000 people have season tickets I doubt there is a lot of spare seats available to offer to people to people that want to move. The club is correctly setting expectations

Since work on the extension does not start until Summer 2008 your second date is a tad optimistic too!

unless something has changed recently, summer 2008 is the completion date, not the start date.

Club confirms building work for expanded stadium will start next summer
3pm, Thursday 24th May 2007

Following Reading Borough Council's decision to approve plans to develop the capacity of Madejski Stadium, the Club have confirmed that work will not begin this summer.

If work got underway now it would cause disruption to existing seats at the start of next season, so construction will begin in the summer of 2008.

Chief Executive Nigel Howe explained, "Although we initially hoped that building work would start this summer, a number of factors have to be addressed before work can begin and we want to make sure the project is carried out properly and not rushed.

"We have said all along that no final decisions had been made on the finer detail of the design, and we will now take our time to make sure that the right decisions are made.

"If we started now, the necessary enabling works would not be completed in time for the start of the season, which means there would be disruption to existing seats and that is something we have always been very keen to avoid.

"As always, we will ensure that our supporters are kept fully informed at every stage of the process."

Nigel added that a 'green' transport plan will be adopted to meet the additional travel implications.

"We will further increase the number of bus services running to Madejski Stadium on matchday and encourage people to use public transport whenever possible.

"Hopefully we'll also have the use of the new railway station which is planned for Green Park."

whether it completes next summer or not would have no impact on seats being available this coming season and hence the lack of requirement for a movers week this summer

Hopefully along with getting more people to use 'Green' services, the lower the bus ticket prices. As a Newcassal fan said, "three p'und? This is only a 15 minute journey tops isn't it?" Ok, so up North they can't afford so much (allegedly) but still.

All the club needed was an exchabge week, would not have been all that hard to do, and could have been done after renewals.

How do you know it wouldn't be hard to do ?

Say 5000 people decide they want to move seats for some reason - absolute chaos as they fight for the alleged 'best' seats.

As has been said it wouldn't surprise me if there is the ability to move unofficially but it does make sense for the club to encourage as many people as possible to renew in current seats and then deal with real needs 'offline'.

It's not as if there are any 'bad' seats - no one sits behind pillar or has the roof obscuring their view !

what makes you think 5000 ppl would want to move seats? There will be people in one stand that might like to move to another, hardly an unfair request, or more likely they would want to move away from people that they find annoying, I could easily arrange such a situation, nothing is promised just a swap board, FFS even council house tennants can seem to manage it.

I have no idea how many might want to swap.

I was just pointing out what might happen.

If the club announced a Movers Week it is quite possible a lot of people might hang on renewing their tickets in the hope they could move, it would be very difficult for the club to know what might happen and with a very limited time to process an unknown number of moves then it could have all sorts of knock on effects.

There is nothing to stop people swapping seats anyway - someone could set up an unofficial swap shop where you could advertise your seats and what you want and just swap cards, then inform the club you have a 'new' address. I suspect that may be a problem with cup tickets etc as you can only use a card in the right name to pay - but a minor issue !

Seems to me the club are trying to manage expectations - get people for who a move might be just a 'nice to have' to stick where they are and leave just the real 'needy' cases to deal with. As has been said I suspect the club will try and sort people out once they know what is available (not that I have any inside knowledge !!)

the idea of the movers week is for those that have renewed to be able to swap seats, seems a sensible idea to me, and FYI seats are not transferable, so stick that up your behindyu and smoke it!!!!!

In that case it seems even more likely that there would be chaos if 18k people were trying to move...
Given how Reading fans delight in forming queues can you just see the lines forming at 3am on the morning of Movers Day !!!

tickets are transferable - just don't tell Boyd !!
