How about introducing a ST exchange programme?

Say for instance I wake up one morning and fancy watching Oxford instead or Reading. Wouldn't it be great if I could just ring up the club and they put me in touch with an Oxford season ticket holder who fancies watching Reading for the day?

Say for instance I wake up one morning and fancy having my eyes burned out with red hot pokers. Wouldn't it be great if I could just ring up the club and they put me in touch with a sadist who fancies torturing me for the day?

In the States they have these schemes that actually work

A baseball season is 160+ games so very few season ticket holders will go to every game. Each club run their own system to resell the seats (which of course for RFC is "unworkable")

Then you have http://www.stubhub.com which is a legal touting service. Prices are quite reasonable and it works really well.

One problem for a ST exchange system is that Reading FC use a member card which would soon get lost/stolen if it was loaned out to strangers. If a book of tear off tickets was issued then it would be possible to have a exchange pool. How many clubs issue their season tickets as separate tickets these days?

You are quite right. Not wishing to re-engineer the Madejski's entire ticketing & turnstile system, but MLB tickets have a barcode rather than a magentic or chip system. Thus tickets are unique and can be re-issued or re-printed as required.

In theory you should be able to disable an ST for a particular game and re-enable it on to a different member card. In theory.

Spurts still do. A season ticket holder had his book delivered to work (a mistake with so many Arse fans here as he had a number of tickets stollen out of the book for fun).
