genome Sam Matterface and Lee Dixon at 10am. Christ

Dixon with an absolute worldy there "It said VAR check - goal but now they've changed it to offside!"

Maybe that's the check being completed Lee?

3 games in and my opinion that ITV shouldn't be allowed to show any football, let alone the world cup, hasn't changed

My favourite bit so far was Matterface calling Messi's penalty "Messi-like"

From Despair To Where? That Martinez goal did not look offside, unless you're counting his fringe.

His body was leaning off for me

Indeed, the big failing of VAR already in this tournament is that we don't get to see the decision making process immediately, which you'd think would be straightforward as it's all AI AFAIK

Argentina just had their third "goal" chalked off for offside

Agreed

And not too keen on BBC coverage either

Keeping up with the BBC page periodically and just come across a comment saying the offside rule should be changed if the technology is this precise now. But I don't see how changing the offside rule would change anything, unless you were changing the entire principle of being "offside".

I saw the argument about changing it so that it should be that if all of the player is offside, then it gets called as offside. But that doesn't change the margin of calls. It's frustrating if someone is ridiculously close to being onside, but it's just how it is, it's a black and white rule.

I hated the idea VAR when it was pitched, I hated the idea of it when it was introduced, and I hate it now. It may have increased the number of correct calls but that for me does not increase the enjoyment of the game.

Isn't the interpretation in some places that it's not any part of the body, it's any part of the body you could score a goal with - i.e. your hand being ahead wouldn't be offside but your foot would?

I don't think that's part of the written rule (I may be wrong) - but I think it's things like this that need clarification,

Yes I think it's only a part of the body you can score with, would need confirming though although I believe that's what changed.
