Most ridiculous piece of policing ever this. Do they intend on releasing a further 3,000 pictures so they can ban the whole away end that day?
Also, how do you prove in court that someone joined in with a chant? Mixed amongst 3,000 other voices you can easily blag that you were miming or that you’d changed the words or something. Are they going to get lip readers in to testify?

If these supporters were under police observation during the match - why we they not pulled out and dealt with away from the main support and dealt with accordingly. Clearly it seems that IF this group of supporters were causing offence then the police and stewarding on the day need to be reviewed. Seems to me a fear factor involved in shoeing people out of a crowd.

Fcuk me if Clive Doyle ever had to deal with something like this. The whole of Reading would be shut down.

Partly right - although just about all clubs' have the policy not to try and arrest individuals from acrowd unless absolutley necessary, I think the reason this has been done in this way is because of the number of complaints received by Hampshire police after the match was over, and the way the media latched onto the story.

No-one can defend the identities being released like this, though - I understand Police guidelines are that this should only be done for violent offenders, which this clearly isn't. I think the Police are trying to make a public point to appease the media and to be seen to be doing something - and I also think it may be a message to Spurs fans in the week before Berbatov meets them again.

Yeah, cos Hampshire Police really give two shits about what happens on the MET’s patch

Do you really think the Home Office and DCMS aren't involved in this, or that the Football Policing Units at the various forces don't talk to each other?

Yes, they talk to each other. Before games they’ll discuss how many away fans are expected, how many trouble makers, what are their plans, do you have any intelligence on them, what is the best way to prevent trouble?

In this instance, half of Portsmouth have grassed up to the police so they have no other option but to launch an enquiry and on route pick up a few easy token arrests to help boost their stats. It has nothing to do with Spurs playing United tomorrow the timing is just a coincidence and do you really think that a handful of arrests will mean that when Pompey play at WHL later in the season Sol will get no grief from the Spurs fans?

As well as the routine, pre-match conversations at a force-to-force level, forces also get guidance (i.e. leant upon) from above as to what they should be seen to be doing and when they should be doing it for maximum effect.

As to the question in bold - absolutely not, no. Only the sort of simpletons who are in Government and in charge of the Police - who know nothing about football crowds - would think it will make the slightest bit of difference!

I thought it was fairly obvious the hanging from a tree was a referrence to him possibly topping himself because of his mental fragility.

much more likely to be anti mentalist and homophobic chanting than racist IMO.

Dirk Gently The chant is below :

Spurs Fans Sol, Sol, wherever you may be/You're on the verge of lunacy/And we don't
give a f**k if you're hanging from a tree/You Judas c**t with HIV

As usual, Arsenal > Spurs in every department. Even humurous homophobia:

Diarra, woah
DIarra, woah
He left the Chelsea scum
Cos Ashley wants his bum

I know the guy who was nicked from Wokkers. He's never been arrested before let alone at football. He goes to Spurs every week home and away.

To try and give him a life ban for joining in with this chant is ridiculous. offensive chants are sung at every single football league ground (when there's a game for the pricks out there) every weekend. It seems they're discriminating against one type of abuse and not any others. It pisses me off all these shitty arrests at football, cos it's so full of double standards.

As TMD say's how can they prove he was actually singing ?
