US 0 Mexico 5

by Ark Royal » 26 Jul 2009 22:36

US get a right old tonking by Mexico in the CONCACAF Gold Cup final. Five second half goals in34 minutes and Vela and Dos Santos ripped the back four a new arsehole. 79,000 in Giants Stadium and 95% of them must have been Mexican.

Reality check: Do not confuse this US team with the team that beat Spain in the Confederations Cup. Completely different set of players.

I hope Landon Donovan got booed off the pitch for his total lack of professionalism and commitment.

Donovan did not play and it was pretty much a US second XI. Apart from two players who play in Norway, all were from MLS teams.

I'm not all that fond of Donovan, but given that Beckham did piss off to Milan, abandoning his club, and did play like a lethargic turd in his time at Galaxy on the whole, according to quite a few, and was unable to offer anything in terms of leading by example as a captain when he was there (and was behind the complete disaster of getting Gullit appointed as manager) what exactly is it that you feel that Donovan said that was unjustified?

Or are you just one of the "bloody-yanks-how-dare-they-slag-off-Beckham-what-do-yanks-know-about-football-anyway-stupid-mongs-call-it-soccer-what-muppets" brigade who have clearly thought deeply on the issue?

Nope.

I met him when he came to Australia.

He thought he was the greatest person in the world.

He was really oxf*rd rude. Told one of my mates to oxf*rd off because he was a fatty.

As I said - Total Tosser.

PS - he appeared to be pissed at the time though

Better showing overall than I expected from this band of pink-cheeked tousle-headed suburban lads. No answer for Vela after intermission, and no surprise there.

Bradley handled it very smartly, I thought, with the first team in the Confeds in June and then seeing what he's got in the way of depth for next summer (if for no other reason than the sensible expectation that half the first team'll get straight reds during group play) and, if necessary, what remains of the qualification campaign.

Just pleased they played the final in Jersey and not here and that I didn't have to bear the celebrations over a win that really doesn't mean much with nothing more than the jug at stake.

Stuart Holden something of a revelation amidst the wreckage.

Yep, Holden was bright in the first half but was responsible for the second that killed it. I could not believe how quickly the US lost their shape and how stretched they got as soon as the first one went in. It really was a car crash for the rest of the half. It could have been more than five.

Absolutely nothing of note in his career other than trying to make a name for himself by slagging off one of the greatest players this country has ever produced for trying to help his country.

"Trying to help his country"?
My you really are wrapped up in the whole celebrity hype aren't you?
The guy is interested solely in numero uno and you make it sound as though he went to Afghanistan rather than Italy.
Presumably you wear a "Let's not forget Jade Goody" T-shirt and would vote for Chantelle as Prime Minister?
What sort of generation have we bred?

LOL @ the f'in beaners caring enough about Donovan to elevate him unduly in their mass derision

A nation of half-wits, and that's being generous --the cream of that crop all waded across the river
