Depression in football

by prostak » 20 Nov 2009 19:06

One good thing that could come out of the horrible events of last Tuesday with Robert Enke would be an increased openness on the subject of mental health. Today Andreas Biermann of FC St Pauli revealed he's been in a clinic for his depression since earlier this month, and hopefully things like this will give strength to others suffering in this way so they are not moved to take the same terrible action as Enke.
Gute Besserung, Andreas!

No problem. Your post on Enke was one of the best I read on any forum or site, incidentally.
I've a genuine hope and belief that seeing their idols go through such problems, or even the conversation generated by awful ends like Robert's or Justin Fashanu's, will inspire people to go and get the help that's available rather than doing something silly. And I'm glad we agree on something, heh.

It's much more important when a celebrity is depressed...not so bothered about the average person TBH

IIRC Inside Sport on BBC1 tonight are doing a feature on depression in Sport. Might well tune in.
